Using a smoothbore for deer.

Thompson Center New Englander 12 gauge loaded with a patched .690 ball over 100 grains of Goex FFg. This one shoots 4" three shot groups to POA at 40 yards with just the front bead.

Good shooting. Been thinking about getting myself a flintlock smoothie to shoot squirrels/deer with.

I got a doe with my 20 ga.flintlock smoothbore last year. The shot was about 45 yards with 60 gr of 3F and a patched .600 round ball. The dear went about 40 yards and droped.

Carrying a smoothbore makes you concentrate on hunting heavy cover along contours and transition zones - not a bad idea at all.
