looking for a muzzleloader that i can change barrels.stopped at a sport store that had the t/c pro hunter.Can anyone help me with the pros and cons on this model. need help,the buck only goes so far. | ||

Hi Sam, I think that the Pro Hunter is a very good choice for someone just beginning in muzzleloading and also wanting to change the barrels on the gun. I can not give you pros and cons on the weapon since I do not own one, but I have shot one chambered in .270 and I really liked it. I found it to be over priced more than anything else. There is a new generation of M/L's coming that shoot 200 grains accurately past 300 yards. However, none offer interchangable barrels. For that purpose, I'd go with the TC line. The Pro Hunter offers their latest features but you'll pay for it. They do make fine muzzle loaders and I've owned several. Speaking of overpriced; have you looked at the price of the 200gr. powder rifles. Not sure why we need that much powder and actually in my opinion making 300yard shot claims is doing the muzzleloading business a disservice. Some less informed individuals in the rule making business will look at those claims and believe that anyone can now shoot out to 300 yards (which as we all know takes a lot of practice and some luck) then they will eliminate the use of muzzloading rifles except for regular rifle seasons, and that will be the end of special seasons. | |||

I agree with MLKeith, Starting muzzleloader hunting is a reason to get closer to game. And I know that those muzzleloaders that claim the long distance stuff will just fuel the fire to making the ml seasons more strict. Open sights with no sabots and no pellet powder is enough to keep most from applying for Colorado. Just wait till the states see that the muzzleloaders are claiming accurate 300 yard hits, we will be down to flintlocks and round ball for ml seasons and have to use our inlines during normal rifle seasons. I have to agree. Enough is enough. Not buying such rifles, and thankfully there are only a very few and those are waaaaay overpriced, is the best way to voice agreement, IMO. And I hope nobody would take that opinion as any sort of endorsement of one action type over another, that argument is ridiculous. WHUT? | |||

The new "high powers" are running $1,500 and up. I wouldn't let it worry me too much, the average Joe won't spend anywhere near that much when he can buy a standard model for $300 or so. Funny thing, during our Civil War, Confederate and Union Sharpshooters were documented at making kill shots in excess of 1,000 yards. For the Southern SS's, the English Whitworth target rifle was their favorite, although very few made it through the blockaid. I personally have dug (metal detecting) a number of Whitworth bullets that were fired at a distance of over 800 yards at the battle of Nashville. This was proven by digging several dropped bullets and later digging the spent bullets where we then checked the distance with a range finder. The tree he was using for elevation still stands today.
