Put the hurt on a good animal with my Knight .45 caliber Disc Extreme. Shoulder shot him as he turned to look back to see what was pushing him. A 175 grain Barnes/Knight Red Hot copper bullet did the damage but it didn't remain in one piece through the scapula. Shot initially at 70 yards but recovered 250 yards away still on his feet before receiving a coup de grace to the neck.

Butcher estimates the live weight to have been 250-275 pounds, scores around 150, enough to enter provincial record books. Smiler

Anyone else have tales to tell of Barnes Red Hot bullets?

Great buck! clap

I, too, use a .45 caliber muzzle loader and I used to always get a complete pass through when I used Thompson maxi-balls, but since I've switched to Hornady XTPs with sabots, that isn't always the case, although I haven't lost any deer, or had them run very far.

Everything I say is fully substantiated by my own opinion.

Very nice buck, congrats! Love to hunt those hardwoods myself. Nothing like watching a buck come cruising along. tu2

"Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading" - Thomas Jefferson

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

"If you're being chased by a Lion, you don't have to be faster than the Lion, you just have to be faster than the person next to you."
