Rep Gaetz Officially Moves to Vacate the Speakership Login/Join

This is a travesty, too serious to be a joke, and total dysfunctional waste of the Tax Payers time by a leader of the “ Freedom Caucus.”

Speaker McCarty made this deal allowing one member to bring a vote to vacate to the floor. He deserves some blame for being stupid enough to make such a deal.

Now 218 votes shall vacate the Speaker’s chair, and we are right back where we started.

I am sure Dr. Easter is so proud.

Oh, and give Ukraine the confounded aide, and let them do the fighting they are willing too.

I have a hard time understanding how a constituency could look at this and think that what he is doing makes sense or is a positive in any way.

It's just chaos. Burn the place down kind of stuff. With all the work there is to do for Congress, this bullshit will be what they will waste the next few days on. Then we will move on until Gaetz or MTG or some other idiot decides to do something else stupid to capture the imaginations of the small fraction of zombies who think this nonsense is a good idea.

And, Gaetz looks like Beavis. Or, is it Butthead?

The Ukrainians are fighting this war against the new totalitarian regimes. If Putin wins in Ukraine his war machine will match again and China is one step closer to moving on Taiwan.

Those would be events probably can’t stay out of.

Unlike some I will give an end point. Ukraine and the West recognize the Russian annexation of Crimea. Russia withdraws out of Ukraine. Ukraine becomes a neutral state whose neutrality is Guaranteed by the United States, Poland, Germany, France, and Britain. However, out right NATO membership shall mot be granted. Russia has to accept that bf I would stop sending aide. If Ukraine refused the structure of that deal, then Ukraine would know it continues wo the support of the US.

I do not see Ukraine expelling Russia from Crimea. I do not believe Putin would ever leave Ukraine short of being expelled through force.

So, give Ukraine the aids.

This is not about Ukraine aide regardless what the people engaged in this government hostage taking say, or you believe.

This is about non-serious people elected to government with a design to make our Political System fail from within. Their goal is to achieve more donations and appear the those in the cave looking at the wall as the Power.

Gsetz has no solutions. He does not want to try to solve anything. He wants the House not to function, so he can complain, preach about it to his church membership. That is how his constituents can look at his actions as positive. The Dems are evil and want to destroy your America. McCarty worked with them. I expelled, or made life measurable for the person who betrayed you. Now, the political treason was making sure Gaetz’s constituents got their Social Security Checks on time until Nov.

Now, the real kicker is vacate the Speakership. Then we are right back to the beginning of the year unable to get enough votes to elect a Speaker. That is stupid and inexcusable Duggaboy.

Well, something like this ain’t happened in 100 years. How are we going to get passed the Nov deadline for funding when we are unable to elect a Speaker? This assumes 218 members of the House vote to vacate.

This is Inexcusable, and it comes from your part of the Right.

The US had approved 113 billion for Ukraine, but given them 75 billion. That's 126 million per day. Your math may vary.

Gaetz Takes His Shot
Plus: Trump's bad day in court
CHARLIE SYKES
OCT 3

READ IN APP

In today’s Morning Shots: Trump’s trial; Gaetz’s play; Kelly’s story; Davis’s plans; donor delusions; and the GOP’s many death wishes.

Happy Tuesday.

Punchbowl’s Jake Sherman reports that as Matt Gaetz left the floor, after filing his motion to vacate the chair (and oust Kevin McCarthy), “the Democratic side of the House erupted in laughter.” How could they not? The GOP clown car was careening into a massive pile of merde, and the only thing America desperately needed was a bigger bowl of popcorn.

As we discussed yesterday, the one thing that members of a bitterly divided Congress seem to agree on is the bipartisan (and wholly merited) loathing of Gaetz. But now he has taken his shot. Will it work? Will he be able to oust My Kevin from his etiolated speakership?

Nobody knows, but it should be a helluva show for all you fans of Veep, House of Cards, and Game of Thrones. The state of play this morning:

Semafor: Matt Gaetz makes his move.

A CNN tally indicated at least five House Republicans were supportive of Gaetz’s effort — enough to strip McCarthy of his gavel if all Democrats also line up against him. Over a dozen other Republicans were at least open to deposing McCarthy.

**

Punchbowl: Is it too late for McCarthy?

So let’s be abundantly clear where things are for McCarthy — he’s in immediate danger of losing his speakership. Even though McCarthy’s allies are publicly expressing confidence, behind the scenes, his leadership team is taking the threat very seriously.

McCarthy has two days — today and tomorrow — to schedule a vote on Gaetz’s resolution. That vote could come up as early as noon today.

McCarthy is stuck. He probably can’t win with Republican votes alone. Democrats don’t trust him and are less than eager to waltz into the middle of a Republican civil war in order to prop McCarthy up.

**

Axios: Will Democrats save McCarthy?

What they're saying: "I'm not a cheap date," House Rules Committee ranking member Jim McGovern (D-Mass.) said of his vote on a motion to vacate, signaling that his support would come at a cost.

**

Why Democrats might not want to save Kevin. Let us count the ways — and it’s quite a list: Via the Wapo:

*McCarthy didn’t vote to certify the election on Jan. 6, 2021. The attack on the U.S. Capitol is still raw on Capitol Hill, and Democrats will never forgive McCarthy for voting against certification after the mob was cleared from the building.

*McCarthy said former president Donald Trump was responsible for the Jan. 6 riot — and then, a few weeks later, traveled to Mar-a-Lago and took an infamous picture with Trump with their thumbs up. Democrats are still furious about the incident, which helped revive Trump politically and whitewash the severity of his role on Jan. 6.

*McCarthy worked against the creation of the Jan. 6 select committee, which Democrats viewed as an attempt to protect Trump.

*McCarthy gave the Jan. 6 security footage to since-fired television host Tucker Carlson without releasing it to news outlets.

*McCarthy delivered votes for the Cares Act — a $2.2 trillion coronavirus relief bill passed in 2020 and signed by Trump — and later became highly critical of pandemic relief legislation.

*He worked with Democrats to help put together the microchips manufacturing bill last year and then whipped his party to vote against it.

*McCarthy backed out of a spending agreement he made with President Biden as part of a deal to lift the debt limit less than two weeks after Biden signed the law in an attempt to placate the furious conservatives in his conference. Democrats on the House floor on Saturday chanted, “Keep your word!”

*McCarthy said in August that he would hold a vote on the House floor to open an impeachment inquiry against Biden. In September, on the first day back from summer recess, McCarthy opened an impeachment inquiry and did not hold such a vote.

*On Saturday morning, McCarthy didn’t give lawmakers 72 hours to read the short-term spending bill to keep the government open despite House rules. Republicans argued that it was an amendment and not a full bill so the 72-hour rule didn’t apply. But Democrats were given just minutes to read it and vote on it despite asking Republican leadership for more time. (Democrats deployed stalling tactics to get about two hours to read and discuss the bill.)

*On Sunday, McCarthy went on CBS’s “Face the Nation” and charged Democrats with wanting a shutdown. That infuriated Democrats, who voted nearly unanimously for the government spending bill when fewer than half of Republicans did.

Exit take: As we said, stock up on the popcorn.

There is hope, even when your brain tells you there isn’t.

McCarthy was the best they had and it took him 15 votes and countless promises to get the gavel. He then broke most of the promises he made to get it so it's unlikely he can regain the Speakership and there's nobody behind him with a good path.

They'll flail around for a couple weeks until they frustrate and piss off enough relatively sane Republicans to elect Jeffries.

Remember, this "One Member Vacate the Chair" nonsense was one of the things McCarthy agreed to.

If 218 members vote robust the Speaker, we will not have a Speaker. The Nov deadline to fund the Government will lapse, and the loons will feel and declare they won after all.

That is the play here. Prevent the House from being able to conduct business so November funding deadline lapses. Or, make McCarty appear to be a traitor the the “right” and real US Citizens by cutting a deal w Dems.

The far, lunatic right will then shout to the mountain tops, “ We shut her down!”

When you elect people to Government who actively campaign on making the system fail, this is what you get.

Ukraines indépendance and territorial integrity was guaranteed by the 1992 Budapest memorandum, signed by Russia, the US, UK ...and china/ France who gave weaker undertakings.

When Russia trained, funded and armed separatists in Ukraine we (the guarantors) did very little. When Russia took Crimea we did very little.

An agreement or treaty is worth nothing if one side thinks the other will sit back and do nothing if they contravene it.

If we do nothing, or stop helping Ukraine you might just as well rip up all other treaties and agreements, because they will mean nothing if one side just ignores them and there are n o consequences.

If China and Russia see that they just have to wait until the political wind changes and western support stops for the victim they will have no deterrent to take or do whatever they want.

The US and the EU are the worlds two biggest economic powers by a long way. Nether have troops at risk and both (plus the UK) should be able to provide sufficient funds not only for Ukraine to defend herself but also to simply bankrupt the aggressor if they continue.

The Speaker pro Tempore, we just won't know who it is until McCarthy is ousted.

McCarthy had to provide a list of successors back when he finally won, the new Speaker pro Tempore will preside until the House is ready to try to elect a Speaker again.

Shouldn't change anything.

This isn't like when McCarthy was trying to get elected, there was no Speaker yet so this House had adopted no Rules under which to operate and couldn't swear in Members.

There's now a Speaker pro Tempore who acts as Speaker, all Committees and Rules are in place, business should largely proceed, with McCarthy's loyalists nursing a white-hot hatred of Gaetz.
