Putin is a genius. An evil genius, but look at what he's accomplished for himself after the fall of the Soviet Union. You can't say he's not a smart man, despite some of his latest miscalculations. So acknowledging that is not advocating him or his actions.

Just like I think it is fair to say that Hitler was genius in many ways. he was a corporal in the German army in WWI and wound up being the ruler of the country. That took genius. I can recognize that without approving of one single thing he did.
