Speaking of patriotism…

Stewart should stick to comedy.

He can always call for revolution.

Trump even with immunity has a way to be removed. Impeachment. However, that would require bipartisan support at this point.

Your side is less than half at this point. Give the man a chance to show he’s either really going to help the US, or he’s not.

If not, bring articles of impeachment and have 50% plus one in the house and 2/3 of the senate agree with it.

Even most democrat voters want this constant whining to go away for a while.

I don’t love Trump. But I do think he can’t be worse from a governance end than Biden.

Your damn right I want him to fail. I oppose Trumpism and will do it vocally. I have no reason to slink away in shame--he didn't get MY vote.

Trumpism has nothing to do with Americanism; it's all about Trump. Don't you get it yet?

I want Trump to fail at all he's promised to do. Were you paying attention to what he said?

How about instead of hoping Trumpism fails, list specific policies and governance acts you object to and why.

I tried to stick to that with both Obama and Biden.

There is a lot I don’t like about Trump, but he is the president elect. Same with Biden as president.

Politicians all lie, so while that’s a legitimate attack, it’s hardly unique and is really more of a relative attack.

Trump has said he likes legal immigration but wants to deport the people who are not here in accordance with our laws. I’m good with that, as it is. If he starts trying to deport US citizens, I’m going to be attacking that policy. I think the H1B visa program is a good thing, but it certainly could use some improvements so it is not abused.

Presidential immunity? I agree it’s a slippery slope, but the courts (not Trump) have ruled and if we want to change it, let’s write some new laws or amend the constitution about that.

Obviously we won’t necessarily agree with whether or not the prosecutions of Trump were what is popularly called lawfare, but hopefully we can all agree that the idea of using the legal system for political purposes is not something we like.

Etc.

That list is too long.

Include ALL of Project 2025 on the list of objections.

His cabinet appointments are objectionable too, for various reasons but mostly because they all fit the authoritarian agenda that he has made clear. Trump fully intends to use the legal system for political purposes. Heck, he's already been doing that, so now that he has the power, why would he not use it?

The biggest objection is that Rightists have cut him loose. He's not tethered to norms, founding principles, reason, etc. He's a monster.

Then include ALL the Christian Nationalist's agenda as objectionable. Actually, it's appalling. They want to destroy the Founder's secular form of governance, and they don't care how.

I'll side with Magine.

In addition, I object to Trump's policies on climate change, hunting ("horror show"), NATO, Ukraine, plans to use the AG for political revenge, and on and on.

The reason the likes of Trump got traction is because the extreme Right became convinced the left as a whole is extreme.

That didn't take much convincing, but Trump was/is over the top.

2020 elections - dems got 81m votes, resulting in 306 EC votes -
2024 dems got 75m votes, 226 ec votes

THIS is the reason the dems lost -- it's just scary old math -

if you don't get 270 EC votes, you lose - as the "national" popular vote has no legal basis

where did the 6m votes go? the GOP had nothing to do with that

everything else is bluster -

A little more math. Trump got 77 million votes, Harris got 74 million votes.
There were 89 million eligible voters who did not bother.
I'll count them as 'none of the above', or 'are you kidding me?', or 'having a bad hair day'.

You're blustering, Jeffee, and contradicting yourself.

If the third variable is null, the non-voters, then why the shift in the voters?

Trump and the GOP divided and conquered with lies.

I talked to more people who didnt vote than ever before. From welfare to college ed. many usual voters said they did not this time.
They thought neither party cared about them, so it made no difference.
That was just local, but I wouldnt be surprised if it held for the country.

sigh -
and you state you are a retired CPA - w0w

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...esidential_elections

it's historically been that the voter participation rate has been AROUND 58%, +/- that's the column "Turnout as a % of VEP"

the last two elections have been the highest in terms of eligible voter participation -

that being said, the non-voters would then also average something like 42% +/- --

as we don't count non-voters to determine who won the most votes in a state (or in the pretend national popular vote) they have no impact to the results -

zero

since we had the SECOND highest voter count in US history,

why do i bother?

It's NOT fiction, instead factual that Trump lied, spewed dis/misinformation constantly for the four years Biden was president, not counting before. And many people like you believed and GOPers in congress affirmed whether they believe or not. It's reasonable to presume that it all was/is strategy, intentional, and it's working. If lies were not the key factor in the winning formula, then Trump would have lost the election and being prosecuted for his crimes right now.

quote:

Well, thanks Jeffee for that Wikipedia link. That helps.

I'm surprised that the 2024 vote count was the second highest. Somehow all those rigged votes must have shifted. Wink

Or, another probability is that the constant stream of lies, mis/disinformation convinced some people to join the Believers in Fiction or just give up.

Another factor is that third party votes were down. Trump got most of RFK Jr's votes and the Libertarian votes.

"Green Party nominee Jill Stein did the best, with just about 800,000 votes." IOW, those are votes Harris didn't get, but should have for the sake of keeping anti-green Trump out of office.

https://www.npr.org/2024/11/29...-fewer-votes-in-2024

I do give Trump credit for the higher turnout 2020 and 2024. It shows that a master shithead gets people riled up, both fellow shitheads and the opposition.
