Your link is incomplete...

The reason for not having a self destruct is, I assume, the same reason there is none on ICBMs, so it can't be hacked or spoofed.

Lack of control signals over time is a standard practice for triggering an event. As in "the bad guys have it so don't signal it till it blows up" kind of thing. In IT we call it keep-alive or time to live ttl

That would make sense to me.

If it has signals reception after release or launch, it’s susceptible to hacking.

Undoubtedly there is a self destruct timer… that didn’t work.

I thought our strategic weapons did have an abort code, but Jeffive is definitely in a better position to know than I.

The fear initially was that any self destruct code would be compromised by spies, before hacking became a thing. That's the reason that bombers are put into the air early on, they can be sent and recalled as needed. Missiles, whether ICBMs or sub-launched ballistic missiles, are a "Be sure you want to do this" proposition.

Our air forces operate IFF. If we were concerned about electronic spoofing that would seem to be an ideal target. I have no clue about how it works btw...

I do wonder about how much western tech is falling into the hands of Russia I this mess.
