If you have cash, crashing stocks are fantastic, as it allows you to buy cheap. Warren Buffet has been hoarding cash in the past few months apparently. I bet a lot of people close to Trump are doing the same.

When to buy in, is the question. It could be a long slide from this overvalued market, and the bottom may be lower than we'd think. As incomes go to pot and prices stay high, there will be a period of asset-stripping from the middle class, and it won't go over smoothly. Expect a messy 2026 election season, although 2027 may be the actual recession year. Hard to predict from this far away...

Does anyone believe the stock market is being deliberately manipulated? Or is the fall just an example of unintended consequences of Trump's actions? In other words, is it shrewdness, or it is stupidity? Regards, Bill.

It almost seems that way doesn't it? If true that would be grounds for impeachment and criminal indictment.

Who’s left to impeach him? They already had two opportunities, and now his cult is even stronger. He knows he has the nation by the balls.

There might be a couple pubs left in the House with a pulse and a functional brain, but they're getting scarcer by the day.

The stock market Trump chaos-driven sell-off has wiped out $4 trillion from the S&P 500’s peak last month. When folks start losing money at that clip and in those amounts, it serves as a wake up call to even the densest of the MAGAts. Why do you think they have all disappeared in the last week?

Maybe the plan for reducing inflation is to take money out of circulation, using tariffs, bitcoin, and a decline in the stock market. If the velocity of money didn't make up for it, deflation would unavoidable.

Collateral damage would be limited to that part of the population who should be working 7-to-5 anyway...

I was surprised today on CNBC, The Exchange, one of the hosts came out and said, "I may get fired for this but what Trump is doing by getting in a tariff war is insane"y, and in his second term he has no economic experts around him, just yes-men. One of their guests called Trump's actions a "suicide strategy" for the U.S. economy.

Trump is totally ignorant of how the world economies function.

The stripping of assets of people to the benefit of the super-rich has been going on since the late 70's in many countries.
If you look back in history there was a large gap in wealth distribution in the late 1800's/early 1900's, which triggered revolution and wars. A big consquence of these revolutions and wars was that wealth got more equally distributed, and that was kept in place, largely by high (income) taxes. In many countries, including the US, income tax rates were 70% or even higher.
Since the late 70's income taxes were lowered in many countries (coincidentally things like healthcare, education were privatized and became increasingly more expensive in many countries), and the wealth gap has been increasing. This pattern can be seen in the US, Russia, the UK, France, and even China. This wealth gap leads to discontend, which more recently, with the jumps in inflation, has increased. People like Trump don't offer solutions for this disgruntlement, or making life more affordable for the masses.
I don't see it ending any other than previously: with revolutions and war. When, where and how that will start I don't know. It might well be that retrospectively in 50 years the Russian-Ukraine war, or the second term of Trump, might be identified as the trigger.
