Went to a gunshow today. Best in a number of years. Some of the old collectors must have died over the last few months. tables full of old winchester lever guns. Single shot sharps, winchester and Marlin Ballards. One dealer had several tables of Parker shotguns, with a few L C Smiths and others. I'm not a shotgun man in general, but the 8 gauge Parker had me looking everytime I went by it! Not crowded, very few plastic stocked guns, maybe two AR platform guns. Lots of reloading supplies, used dies and so on. I dont usually stay long, as I dont like people around me, but so much neat stuff kept me longer than normal. One dealer said he was offered one collection from an estate, but couldnt handle it all, so got other dealers in. He said the same was why so many dealers had interesting stuff, several big collections for sale.

Possibly Materialism at its finest. My dear old daddy was a car collector and enthusiast. It took my mother and brother less than six months after dads death to erase any sign of his existence. These things we treasure not only may not be a treasure to our heirs, but may well be a burden. I plan to not leave my heir with anything other than assets. If she doesn't want the guns I'll make sure she has the proceeds from their sale upon my death. If dear old daddy would have put the time and effort into his family instead of his cars I doubt he'd of been erased quite so fast. ![]()

I'm trying to liquidate some things now while I still can. No family interest in most of it. Wife once commented that she'd have the police come and get them. I say fawk that. I will keep one or two to hunt with [if I'm able] otherwise they're gone. Give me a home where the buffalo roam and I'll show you a house full of buffalo shit.

You must be foreign born. ![]() Here in America we used to have a publication titled "Self" magazine. There's a variety of social media platforms dedicated to the promotion of an individual, "Truth Social" being an obvious example. ![]() Maybe I shouldn't say more parents, but I certainly know many parents that place a higher priority on their personal things/ glory/ acquisitions than they do the little earthlings they bred and birthed. How many here on AR collect and keep taxidermy and firearms to the detriment of their progeny? Waaaaay back in high school I bought two silver dollars for a single greenback each from a classmate selling off his grandpa's collection, I still have them today. This material stuff we have is disposable, expendable, degradable, depreciable,...... really, dispensable.

Scott, we disagree about just about everything. I thought I had some insight into you with the comment about your father and his cars, but the comment about the coins seems totally incongruent.

Can you help me with a little more detail? I was all of about 16 when I ponied up the two bucks to exchange for the silver dollars for no good reason I could think of then. My only point was the futility of passing down ones materialistic priorities from one generation to the next.

I doubt anyone here puts a higher priority on buying guns over their kids well being. I see some drug addicts that put drugs over their kids around here, but not possessions. Maybe it's a rural thing, but like Shy, parents and grandparents were important. I already have young nephews putting claims on guns! I have many that are just platforms, to test cartridges. Something I have always enjoyed. Those will be sold I expect. But many I stocked myself, and have been on many adventures. Those are the holy grail to those kids. I have 6.5x53R Army&Navy sporter. It's stamped Chas Heyer Nairobi. I hunt with it, shot deer and bears. I love hunting with a gun with a past. A gun with a ghost, I call it. That one too is coveted. When I cant see the fine iron sights to hunt with, it will go to one of them to continue on. Part of me will go with it.
