I'm a law and order guy, but what happened to Scottie Scheffler at Valhalla is over the top. Cops don't help themselves. Makes me think some of the driving while black claims are justified. And they just can't admit when they got it wrong.

Cop claims that Scheffler ignored his instructions and knocked him down. Scheffler disagrees. Cop got a boo boo on his knee and tore an $80 pair of pants. Plenty to charge someone with a felony and send them to jail for 10 years ---Right? Even if true, but and a big BUT -- the cop had a bodycam, but guess what -- it wasn't on. I've stopped listening now. Spoliation instruction?

The video they do have after the fact shows a dozen or more cop cars with flashing bubble gum machines in the dark; a completely chaotic scene, especially for someone who was concentrated on his next round of golf. Is it plausible that a wet drenched cop wasn't clear on his instructions or that they might be misunderstood? Of course not in Kentucky.
Those folks speak the Queen's English with no accent.

And, the prosecutor opposed a motion to push the arraignment from Tuesday, May 21 until Monday June 3 so it wouldn't interfere with Scheffler's tournament schedule. What a great bunch of human beings in Kentucky.

Nope. Won't be going there.

If Kentucky DA had half an inbred mind, he'd just drop the charges and not bring all of the above issues to the forefront.

. . . call me skeptical of that claim. You celebrate Abbott’s pardon of a convicted felon. You whine about the injustice in prosecuting Trump for his crimes. Now you want to give a privileged golfer a pass for being an ass to cops investigating a fatal accident that make a decimal percentage of what the golfer makes.

All done for publicity.

The police man was an idiot.

His department will support him, as usually happens.

One of the reasons people distrust them!

You see these on Youtube all the time.

So impressed with the uniform they most definitely do NOT deserve to wear!

He drug the cop. The cop has injuries.

You can’t just drive past a cop telling you to stop when a person has been killed.

The road was shutdown bc a pedestrian had been killed.

On behalf of my segment of KY, you are welcome to stay in Texas.

Twenty feet. Can you stop that fast? This is stupid.

And we can agree to stay in our respective states.
I'm not currently admitted pro hac in Kentucky or Tennessee and don't think I've ever been admitted in Kentucky.

Twenty feet is a big deal.

If he had not tried to get past the cop, nothing happens.

Thr speed limit through there is 5 mph.

Nah, the point is that out of all the excessive force examples by police that are out there, he picks the poor white golfer who tried to run over a cop to get spun up about.....

When I'm driving and see stationary emergency lights flashing I'm generally on the brakes and looking for the slightest hint of a suggestion from law enforcement to comply with. Hurting someone worse or adding to an existing accident seems like a nightmare

That a pro golfer expects to be waved through and the PGA folks think that a player placard on his car means jack all shows the narcissism of the pro golfer and his support structure.

That an officer was doing official duties and was so damn dumb to grab a moving car and gotten dragged shows he’s equally the problem.

Both sides think they are entitled here.

AFAIC, a cop grabbing a car while on traffic control and getting a skinned knee is not a felonious assault, regardless of how KY wrote its laws. One part of being a LEO is supposed to be good judgement… not showing it here at all.

That the golfer thought he was justified in rolling through and not stopping shows getting his pro golf game disrupted by a court appearance bothers me not in the least… I really doubt a judge would modify my trial date based on my work schedule…

Can we say a pox on both sides here?

Latest video clears it up. Scheffler didn't hit and drag the cop. the cop charged his car, hit his windshield, latched onto the car and then arrested him. Never went to the ground. His supposed injuries to his wrist and knee could have easily been caused by his own actions. Officer has already been reprimanded.

Prosecutor's best option at this point is to drop all charges.

Gotta agree. The video I saw couldn't be interpreted to show that the cop got dragged. I don't even see how the cop could have been injured unless, as you note, that he ran into the car.

The whole thing is stupid. The charges are going to be dropped.

I’ll say it. The video shows the officer blatantly lied on the citation.

He should not and will not be employed much longer.

If Scheffler wants to he needs to sue.

Tge officer tried to break the system. The system found out the truth.

Seems that the officer has a significant history of reprimands, etc. He must be a real fucking prick.

Like I said, the prosecutor should simply dismiss all charges before the arraignment and end this. It doesn't get prettier.

And for those who suggested that I only care about when a privileged person is abused by the cops, that's not the case. Frankly, most cops are good public servants, and most of the time, folks who claim to have been abused by the cops have somewhat sketchy backgrounds, so i tended to not trust those claims. I think this incident lends a lot of potential credence to those other claims and damages law enforcement as a whole. If this cop thinks he can get away with this with Scheffler, what does he do with folks who can't hire the best lawyers?

Well, the prosecutor isn't an idiot. His dismissal of all charges was as close to an apology as I've ever seen. Scheffler's camp has already announced they don't plan a civil suit. Coincidence? Not.

Thanks for posting this thread David and seeing it through. It highlights some character flaws and idiocy I have noted here for a while.

Good news for Scheffler as well…as by all accounts he is a decent man.
