SKAMANIA COUNTY, Wash. — A freeze on the hiring and onboarding of thousands of federal firefighters could have deadly consequences as the national wildfire response operates at a "diminished capacity," a federal firefighting captain told NBC News.

Same Mexicans who rake leaves and cut the grass in town.
Others' kids will only do it if there's a cellphone app and robots.
At some point that might be a possibility.

You are a moron. Read the article dumb ass. It takes extensive training to be a federal firefighter, not a job for high school students.

Pathetic that no matter how stupid Trump's actions are, you support him like the fan boy that you are.

Winter of 1964/1965, there was 20 feet of snow piled up in the Marble Mountains when we got a warm rain around New Years. Every bridge in Scott Valley either lost its approaches or just got washed down the Scott River.

Much of the grunt work, the lifting and carrying to clear creek beds of tree trunks and such, was done by high school kids at $1.25 per hour. I was one of them.

Who voted for the environmental regs that did not allow proper forestry management? There's a start.

Yeah, 60 years ago I could cut a fat hog myself…but that was 60 years ago. The expression ‘kids nowadays’ isn’t a hollow condemnation, most of them grew up in tiny apartments and don’t know one end of a shovel from the other. If one ever raised a blister it’s mommy would be all over social media screaming child abuse and wanting to sue somebody.

Environmental regs are not created by voters. Those are federal lands that the feds have failed to manage properly.

Bingo, you are the winner! Proper forestry management, including prescribed burning requiring minimal personnel, would have prevented the whole mess in the first place. Rabid environmentalists are responsible and they should be dragged kicking and screaming out to the woods to cut some fire breaks.
