Got to love this Christian, Conservative morals in practice. These people are better human beings than their tormentors and those who preach against them can hope of being.

Why not? These folks are abominations, and religious freedom demands they be treated less than. Even though the opinion is not based on free exercise of religion.

That might be the dumbest thing written on AR since I have been here.

Shall we hold all you Muslims responsible for 9-11?

Payback for something someone else has done that is from a similar group of of people? Really? That is how you believe?

I Don’t see many religious men forcing themselves into women’s sports.

I don’t see religious people forcing children to change sex.

I don’t see any religious people telling us there 180 genders! clap

How does any of that matter? It does not justify harassing people. What do you care what someone else identifies as? Forcing someone to change sex? Could you provide a source for that insane claim?

I don’t know Joshua, even from an obviously slanted article that the author admits the gay couple asked them to consider writing, it looks like there is plenty of blame to go around.

Do you actually believe the Washer guy actually went out and trapped a rat off premises to throw out there? Or maybe his story was correct…found dead on his porch and likely drawn by the trash…sounds more reasonable to me.

Seems more like to me, from reading the whole thing…that the gay couple started the conflict. I ask, who ostracized whom first?

As usual…probably 3 sides to that story.

Wow -- this is a standard carpetbagger story -- complete with buying up other properties, becoming a political force, abuse of rules, and, if you squint and turn your head just right, some gentrification, add in a heavy scope of homophobia ...

and, of course, small town politics

i can see all of the above in this -- but the christianity wrapper on it is a stretch - and how do you know the other couple aren't christian as well? you don't - it wasn't published...

nor was it a focus of the article

What evidence is there of homophobia? The people were regular patrons of the gay owned cafe…before they were ostracized.

Yeah, that seems likely. How many years had the gay couple been running the restaurant with zero problems in the community before the new neighbors moved in?

Probably not the guy saying that he hated faggots causing he problems, most likely the gays that had been there for years with no issues.

More of those analytical skills you like to brag about on display. Roll Eyes

It certainly could not be the people who moved next to an existing business and then spent tens of thousands of dollars trying to destroy that business. Those are good Christians you see...they have God on their side.

Why do you not believe it? There is video of him tossing the rat.

The only blame is on the folks who think they can treat gay people as less than bc God told them they are abominations.

Your justification are weaker than your justifications for President Trump.

Maybe he caught the rat because he had a rat problem. So, what. Where did he toss the rat? He tossed it in a gay owned business’s property among other bad acts.

Acts you would not tolerate done at your place of business.

A lot of blame to go around. Yeah, bring gay and trying to engage in commerce as a gay family is to be blamed.

Why do you not believe it? There is video of him tossing the rat.

Looks like he picked it up on his side of the property, also near all that trash full of foodstuffs, and tossed it over…like the man said. It was likely drawn by the restaurant trash.

I am sure he didn’t go off property, trap it, and plant it…talk about conspiracy theories. 2020

Where did they do that? 2020

Your justification are weaker than your justifications for President Trump.

You need to go back and re-read the article. I am beginning to be concerned for your ability to look at something unbiased. Maybe you should consider a different profession. Wink

Maybe he caught the rat because he had a rat problem. So, what. Where did he toss the rat? He tossed it in a gay owned business’s property among other bad acts.

Looks like he picked it up near the trash to me.

Exactly what other “bad acts” did he do? Who was the first to be uncivil and to ostracize???

Acts you would not tolerate done at your place of business.

Enumerate these acts for me here.

A lot of blame to go around. Yeah, bring gay and trying to engage in commerce as a gay family is to be blamed.

I ask again. Who ostracizes who first? Who tried to offer better solutions for the trash? Again, I worry about your reading comprehension skills these day. 2020

Dunno...

Per the article it sounds like an old fashioned town fight with money being behind a lot of it.

The newbies wanting to buy a lot of the town and develop it...

Money.

The gay angle was certainly used here, but I don't exactly see where the new folks used homophobic slurs? or did I miss that in the article?

There was nothing homophobic in the article.

And from the looks of it…a dumpster on the backside of the parking lot (so rodents will be drawn away from the structure) looks like it would be the best and most hygienic option.

Standard neighbors don’t get along story…then the media ran with it. And our resident apologist gladly obliged. Sounds to me that any one us could get along just fine with either of the bickering parties. But hey, let’s keep the hate going.

From reading some of the comments above, It is patently evident that’s okay to knee jerk hate for whole classes of folks who aren’t participants in the slightest.

Terrorizing? What exactly is terrorizing? Burning crosses, broken windows, threats to murder? Over the top summary of the spat.

Looks like another case of someone moving into a neighborhood, then deciding they don't like something about their neighbors so they sue.

I think most of the blame falls on the newcomers. They should have known or investigated their neighbor's dumpster before buying the property. The fact they are Christians doesn't seem relevant.

The guy claims to have patronized the diner many times before the dispute. One witness, who refused to be identified, says he used an anti-gay slur. If not for that allegation, who owns the diner doesn't seem relevant.

It is not that they are Christians. It is the type of “Christianity” they practice.
It is the why they dislike these neighbors that makes the distinguishing difference, and what they use to justify that dislike.

I agree with the below, but…

The Gay agenda is not only (perhaps rightfully) demanding equality and tolerance under the Constitution, but it requires participation with active advocacy and special status designations…. And knee-jerk hate for folks who might only tolerate but not advocate.

And what kind of "love your neighbor" are the restaurant owners practicing?
Slap a no trespassing suit agains your neighbor and then cry that the same neighbor refuses to offer their private property to accommodate you and your patrons?
Sounds like an attitude of entitlement.

I honestly don't see religion or sexual orientation playing much of a role here.
Two neighboring business owners pissing at each other as they have forever. Nothing new there other than the media's reaction and the local government's inaction to the situation.

Now, if you are looking for any evidence of sexual orientation (or race) playing a role in this story, this may be it:

"For their part, the Washers say town leaders have regularly ignored their complaints and play favorites. As evidence, they point out that the Front Porch, with seating for 60 people inside, is not required to have off-street parking. Yet in a building behind ICS Financial, one of the Washers’ tenants runs a small pizza and sandwich shop, 2Kyles, that seats only 20 people but is required to have 15 parking spots, the Washers say. The couple suggest race might be a factor in the town’s demands because one of the 2Kyles owners is Black."

Maybe the Front Porch owners get preferential treatment for some reason - wonder what that could be...
