https://www.newsweek.com/russi...le-sanctions-2009659 Now that's mind blowing. 40% of its budget for defense aka war in Ukraine. I wonder when the camels back will break?

40% of what? Their ruble is worth 1.1 Us cents or something crazy. Saeed, you guys might have to start selling off some of their yachts to pay the mooring fees.

I call this bullshit! Putin called Newsweek and made this announcement to them! I don’t believe anything the media reports. Especially American media! And anything concerns Russia or the Ukraine! ![]()

How much of their GDP is it? How much in absolute spending is it? I can buy that Russia is spending 40% of its budget on defense. With this war, I’m sure that they are cutting corners in many areas, and it’s unsustainable for them; but it probably is a vital item to Mr. Putin’s government even if it’s not necessarily a vital strategic issue for Russia as a nation. Ukraine can’t conquer Russia. The US and NATO cannot conquer Russia (even if debatably we could defeat them on a conventional battlefield completely)- if nothing else, it would be Afghanistan writ large. The desire for a border that is demilitarized was lost to them as a reasonable goal when they invaded Ukraine.
