I don't hate the US.

With the way your government is currently behaving toward others why does getting push back surprise you. Or is it only the US which is allowed to be insulting and condescending toward others?

I get that the Trump administration is playing to its audience with all the chest beating in front of the TV cameras, but is still pretty childish.

I've repeatedly (and honestly)said, that I see Canadians as my Brothers. We are in the midst of a family quarrel. Most in here speak poorly of myself and others who are of a different opinion.

Once the family quarrel has ended, those bitter words remain. None of which have come from myself.

It's why when my wife and I disagree, I'll usually make my point and disarm the disagreement. My wife will normally take overnight to think it through and approach with a cooler head. If I engage in an argument at the time, the damage done is cumulative.

I maintain that Canada is one of our closest allies, regardless of the lack of NATO spending. The very same NATO that Trump is being accuses of not adhering to article 5, if it were to come to that.

One could objectively argue, why should America defend Canada if article 5 were invoked, since they have not honored their NATO commitment.

Brothers are Brothers, you defend your Brother to the death, no matter what.

The same can be said of NATO allies, which the US has also insulted.

Musk was sounding off about how Ukraine would collapse if he shut off starlink access at which point Polands defence minister pointed out that Poland was paying Ukraines starlink bills, and if Musk shut it off they would have to find a different supplier.

Rubio in effect then said shut up and be grateful, and Musk called the Polish minister a "little man".

This chest beating for the US right wing media by US govt officials is pathetic. The beneficiary of this is Putin and China.

Trump has been in government for two and a bit months and has done more to damage NATO and other previously close relationships in that time than Putin has managed in his 20 or so years as Russian president.

Well, if Poland is paying the Starlink bill, I guess Elon has no complaints, although as I recall he did do a bunch of acts to help Ukraine via Starlink before anyone else came to the table (giving them priority and sending a bunch of units free) so his reaction may be one of Ukrainian ingratitude bugging him.

It does bother me that with all the money and effort the US spent helping Ukraine, that we are pissing away all of our international credit because Trump wants public adulation.

Whatever happened to public praise and keeping disagreements private?

Trump and Ukraine apparently are in agreement with a ceasefire.

Let’s see if Putin is agreeable to that.

You're drawing a connection between what's posted on this forum and Trump's remarks about NATO?

With all respect to Saeed, who provides this forum, I doubt our importance and don't see the parallel. But this wouldn't be the first time a Trump supporter has... well, baffled me.

There is a slight difference between relations between you and I on an internet forum and international relationships between allies in NATO.

Sounding off in this forum ( and I would add I have not called you or anyone else names ) is a world away from the relationship built up over 70 years between the UK and the US and between the US and its allies in general.

Did Thatcher, Kohl and Reagan resort to childish insults for the cameras, Churchill and FDR, even Bush 2 and Blair?
