boom stickIt would be incredulous that the US did not see this in real time and probably part in the decision making. Not having the infrastructure is a big delay in a nook program but having all the tech and materials in hiding is a huge problem. What else would they take from there? All the sensitive materials and material. This may have set the program back 10 years but there is a lot that can be done with what they possess. Now it seems a regime change is necessary to rid the IRGC of the materials sadly. In short, an existential threat still exists while all that material/s are in the hands of the Mullah’s and the IRGC.

boom stickI don’t think Saeed is a madman. He is a wise person but obviously has a viewpoint that is bent towards his upbringing and a powerful one because he is in a special class of Middle East peoples. I disagree with him 90% of the time but I think he likes his superiority complex and loves to hate on America.

Every man-made system fails, given time and changing circumstances.
There are any number of ways to calculate the time required for known failure points.
We calculate MTBF for electronics given life test results and change parts out accordingly.
We do "Failure Modes and Effects" studies on critical systems with hazardous possibilities.
There is a really interesting equation for predicting extreme rainfalls that threaten dams.
Certainly our safeguards for nuclear weapons have been made failsafe to the best of our ability.

Any electrical engineer is loathe to admit to any weakness in knowledge and capability, so we do not state that nuclear weapon safety is improbable over the long term.
Our professional licensing is based on demonstrated competency and references from others who are similarly licensed. We are in general unwilling to say we can't do a job. Ironically, those most qualified to do that job are the ones who would best understand its pessimistic probabilities.
Three Mile Island and Chernobyl are examples of operators just making preventable mistakes. Fukushima is an example of something that was not just expected or planned for, combined with a couple of rookie mistakes in handling the resulting damages.
