The far-right and environmentalism overlap is bigger than you think — and growing
April 1, 2022

At first glance, the modern environmental movement and the far-right movement – including anti-immigrant and white supremacist groups – might appear to be on opposing sides of the political ideology spectrum. But overlap does exist.

Researchers say this intersection between the far-right and environmentalism is bigger than many people realize – and it's growing.

"As climate change kind of turns up the heat, there's going to be all sorts of new kinds of political contestations around these issues," Alex Amend said.

Amend used to track hate groups at the Southern Poverty Law Center. These days he researches eco-fascism. He says once you start to look at this overlap, you find two big misconceptions.

"One that the right is always a climate denialist movement. And two that environmental politics are always going to be left-leaning," Amend said.

Conservative leaders – from Rush Limbaugh to former President Donald Trump – have certainly denied climate change in the past.

But today, a different argument is becoming more common on the conservative political fringe.

I remember how the Right performed during the so-called pandemic.

Plus I remember all the other stuff the Right pulled off, such as electing Trump, raiding the Capitol, planning and approving an election coup, and constantly flipping the narratives from reality to alt-reality, and all the farce "investigations" which were really weaponizations of the powers granted by the positions of office - malfeasance.

We're in the midst of a Fascist movement. Why wouldn't the whole thing about the environment and climate change and strained resources become intrinsic with neo-fascism? You can deny only so long, then it doesn't work anymore. What then?

The ONLY reason Trump is being held accountable in the present rather than some future history books, is because the Right doesn't have the power to stop it. They are doing their best with what they have, including Russian assets, (herein and embedded in Congress) Fox News, Newsmax, propaganda, disinformation, lies, script flipping, denial.

Imagine if Trump was still POTUS, with Pence as VP. We would have gone deep into fascism by now, and instead of Juneteenth and pride month we would be celebrating conversion therapy and Trump would have the WH painted Red in honor of Putin's domination of eastern Europe and the crush of NATO. And that's aside from quashing all Trump investigations. Plus the utter weaponization of all law enforcement, especially DOJ, and vengeance of wrath on all Trump's real or imagined enemies.

Thank gawd for Biden and coommie Harris.

71-year-old Edward Hackerman was arrested last week and accused of starting last year’s Oak Fire in Yosemite.

Hackerman was taken into custody last Friday for starting the fired that charred over 19,000 acres.

Hackerman is reportedly a retired firefighter with 12 years experience. The fire destroyed 127 homes and over 60 other buildings.

Authorities busted the Democratic donor for allegedly starting a “ginormous inferno” in Yosemite National Park. Democratic politicians had insisted climate change was to blame for the blaze, which destroyed more than 100 homes and injured several firefighters in July 2022.

• Edward Fredrick Wackerman (his actual name) of Mariposa, Calif., faces a number of charges including aggravated arson following his arrest on Friday.

By the numbers: The arson suspect has donated $1,775 to Democratic candidates and committees since 2020, government records show, including a $1,000 donation to Tim Ryan’s failed U.S. Senate campaign in 2022 and $400 to the Lincoln Project, a disgraced liberal super PAC.

ANOTHER deranged libturd.

On December 13, 2008, junk scientist Al Gore suggested the North Polar Ice Cap would be completely ice-free in five years.

And, with this lie, the global warming hysteria began.

Gore made the prediction to a German audience on December 13, 2008. Al warned them that “the entire North ‘polarized’ cap will disappear in 5 years.”

Former Vice President Al Gore references computer modeling to suggest that the north polar ice cap may lose virtually all of its ice within the next seven years. “Some of the models suggest that there is a 75 percent chance that the entire north polar ice cap, during some of the summer months, could be completely ice-free within the next five to seven years,” said Gore.

Doesn't say the world will end in 5 years, it said we had 5 years to make changes. Lots of science says we are approaching a point of no return on reversing any damage. Come to think of it, millions of people in Texas are probably changing their thinking right about now.

Would it be fair to say that using doomsday narratives for the purpose of scaring people into action is a form of lying?

BTW, I live in a place where it is nearly impossible ignore that the climate is changing. I also agree with you that those with the joysticks don’t want to share the spoils.

Using hyped up fear is wrong, IMO, whether it's about climate change or cultural/societal change.

Who can say with certainty that those doing the hype really believe their shit, and if so consider themselves doing the world a favor?

Many things are still wrong even with good intent.

Then there's wrong things and bad intent combined. We see plenty of that too. Some of that is associated with the climate change thing, but not so much with the Greta types, but instead with the anti-Greta types. BTW, these same anti-Greta types are the same folks who support/supported Trump, the insurrection, culture wars, Russian invasion, etc. Go figure.

There will always be a segment of nuts in society that believe the other nuts and are loyal in their belief even when their own beliefs did not come true.

Kinda sounds like something karmala would say but nuts are nuts.

Things nuts like:

-Promote eating locusts over real meat.
-Put cars in their garages that catch fire and burn their homes down.
-Same cars that can't function in cold weather.
-Cars and devices they call 'green' but are NOT recyclable.
-Charging those cars requires large amounts of fossil fuel use to provide the energy to do so.
-Eat foods that cause brain damage.
-Want wolves and lions in their cities and in our pastures.
-Believe possums eat millions of ticks yet there are still millions of ticks everywhere.

I could go on...

-Eat foods that cause brain damage.
-Want wolves and lions in their cities and in our pastures.
-Believe possums eat millions of ticks yet there are still millions of ticks everywhere.

I could go on...

Things nuts like:

-Trump
-Conspiracy theories, the whackier the better
-Anti-vax rhetoric
-Believe that "queers" and "drag-queens" are trying to kidnap and convert their children
-Book burnings/bannings
-Want to roll the clock back to "better times" when minorities, gays, etc. knew their place and stayed in it
-Want religion -- their religion -- to define and drive policy
-Telling women what they can and cannot do with their own bodies

I could go on . . .

How do we/you know all that is true?

Were you there? Did you see it with your own eyes?

Or did scientists figure that out and inform you?

Why do you believe them? Did you review their evidence, or did you trust them? Or, is it just convenient now to pretend that you trust science and evidence, except for ------?

Why do you not believe them on the current warming - cause and effect?

Are you just parroting and being told what to believe - manipulated??

Real conservatives aren't radicalized. Thus "radicalized conservative" is an oxymoron. Yet there are many radicalized republicans.

"When fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross." - Sinclair Lewis

Per my far-right friend: "reality sucks"

D.J. Trump aka Trumpism's Founding Farter, aka Farter Martyr. Qualifications: flatulence - mental, oral and anal.
