Jeff, not the place or the time. All hands on deck and best wishes to all of our friends in Florida. I hope you folks have hauled ass...if not, batten down the hatches.

I am fond of Florida, especially for the fishing, and especially in the big bend area on the Gulf where these storms are hitting ashore.

North of Tampa, that section is least populated. They call it old Florida. The communities and small towns are precious, IMO. To me, it's the best part of Florida.

It hurts me to know they are suffering there, physically, emotionally and economically.

I lived in Tampa for a bit during college and still have good friends in the area, wishing everyone the very best in Florida and the surrounding states.

I think Milton's landfall is going to tax FEMA and the state and federal goverment to their maximum. I hope they are ready.

How can you really get ready for a predicted 10-15’ storm surge? Loss of lives among those who refused the mandatory evacuation order could be huge. This could easily be a disaster of Biblical proportions although I truly hope and pray not.

10 to 15 ft storm surge? 140plus winds... it won't matter to what windshield structures are built to, as the foundations will float. I can't imagine what will happen to all the cinder block homes. And let's don't even get started on what happens to orlando/Disney

As I've mentioned, my daughter and her family are on the Atlantic side, near Melbourne. She, her husband, and the kids, have been working to help elderly neighbors to get ready for the storm. We are, of course, glad they are on that side. They plan to be without power for a while. I feel pretty powerless. Bill

Watching the latest tracking, it’s moving straight east although the models show it’s expected to turn north and center landfall around Sarasota.

A few years ago, we were looking around the Tampa area - Tarpon Springs on the coast and the Lake Wales area inland. Some beautiful properties there but recently I guess a lot of people have thought the same and prices have boomed.
A very serious and scary situation for all on the west coast of Florida for sure.

I have 2 elderly sisters living in Orlando. I am told they are leaving for Warner-Robins Ga till it's done. I have a couple of acquaintances in the middle of Tampa, I hope they are leaving but I don't know.

Some stats say there are over 65 million Americans afflicted with mental health problems - diagnosed. And that it takes an average of 11 years from recognition for remediation to begin.

The population of the US is close to 350 million. If you count Trump supporters in the stats with mental health problems, the number is much more than 65 million.

Trump has run amuck for at least 11 years with his lies.

So, perhaps we're getting close to the recognition/remediation phase of mental health for the nation.

Thankfully the worst of it missed my family over there. Just minor damage, power is out, toilets don't work, so got off lightly.

I hope everyone else's family and friends are safe and well.

Luckily the storm surge was much less than predicted. Still a mess in some areas, though.
