Boy, the Liberals who thought they had him this time are going to be SO disappointed, but this masterstroke simply cannot lose.

To recap, the State of New York sued him for Fraud for submitting bogus financial statements and property appraisals for loan and insurance purposes. Trump's lawyers did not request a jury trial so it defaulted to a bench trial in which the Judge will decide if Trump is Liable (the civil equivalent of Guilty) and, if so, how he should be punished.

The Judge has already found him Liable (Guilty) by Summary Judgement and declared all New York business licenses associated with the Trump Organization voided, and the remaining trial is to determine how much his fines should be.

But today Trump revealed the devastating strategic masterstroke that will not merely upset the apple cart but will flip it completely over like a NASCAR car doing barrel rolls:

Yep, plaques and trophies from banks and insurance companies issued like pacifiers to a toddler are going to completely change the outcome of a trial that is already past the Summary Judgement stage and is now deep into the penalty phase.

I assume the prosecutors are simply devastated at being blindsided.

trump guilty - done
trump fined = likely
Trump's businesses to be dissolved = HIGHLY unlikely

I also expect it will all be overturned on appeal - not because I support trump, but because this is SOP in the space, and there are no victims of the fraud

Is it fraud to the lay person? sure, I can get that

Is it fraud to a "Accredited investor" - well, that's a mixed bag, but i'll go 60/40 that it's not

Is it fraud to an institution? nope - that's what their due diligence teams are for

When you sign a false statement, certifying it to be true, it's not fraud?

It defrauded the state of New York of tax dollars they were owed.

The Judge already ordered all Trump-entity licenses revoked in New York, and granted a stay pending appeal. With the ample evidence that they were run as a criminal enterprise the appeal should fail.

As for "no victims" does New York Law require an identified victim or just a proven fraud?

Lots of hookers get busted with "no victim".
