I agree that there's a mystery to why there were so many FBI agents on the site. But I also question the information. Are there really 274 FBI agents in DC to begin with? They probably weren't considered undercover because they were in the usual FBI uniform, a suit and tie. All Patel stated was that “Wray’s official position” on why the agents were there was crowd control. The problems with that position are: 1) They weren’t equipped for crowd control. 2) They were in plain clothes…with out even a vest with FBI on it that they all have. 3) There is no record in video of them assisting with crowd control. 4) Agents are coming forth and stating that they weren’t given that mission. 5) When asked by Congress if agents were deployed to the Capitol that day (as it certainly isn’t clear from video evidence)…Wray stated that agents were NOT present. What a bizarre analysis. Do you know where the FBI agents were placed? Were they all in or around the Capitol building? Your estimate of 10% is based on the number of rioters that entered the Capital but there were around 10,000 rioters on the Capital grounds...and between 50,000 and 100,000 that participated in the rally. 274 agents are supposed to intervene in that scenario? By doing what? Pulling their weapons and start shooting? Cuff one rioter and then fight off the 25 that attack them? Plead with the foaming at the mouth whackjobs who were intent on invading the Capital building? AS I have noted....the entire discussion is absurd. The crazed political supporters are in fact those who diminish the event by saying those other crazies had no chance of overthrowing the govt that day with their actions. My point is that the FBI had a substantial presence there, which they denied was the case until just recently. I doubt there are 274 FBI agents in the entire state of MN… so that many being there says someone put a bunch of additional folks there without, apparently, a plan as to how they would enforce the law. The point of where they were? Seems excessive to me since they don’t want to answer any questions about it. I’ve said it before, Trump failed in this case. Badly. Possibly deliberately, but you can’t say that without proof. My point is that if this was an attempt by the FBI to enforce the law, they did a very poor job of it. You investigate after the fact, before and during you try and stop the illegal act. While they have somehow gotten the legal system to say they have no obligation to enforce the law, they do have that duty morally. My suspicion is that yes, the FBI was there, and they should have been involved in stopping the invasion of the Capitol, and there were wholesale failures from Trump on down in doing this duty. The FBI as an institution has since Hoover been more concerned with their image than they have with doing the job of law enforcement. Talk to line cops, why is there so much disdain for the FBI? The FBI has a lot of skilled workers and assets, but is this an example of them not being utilized well? Who knows, the FBI is refusing to admit anything. And yes, it makes Trump who was POTUS at the time look stupid because he didn’t do what he should have… but there is plenty of failure to go around there.
