It is not the traffic citation that got him arrested.

He was held in contempt for failing to appear in court over the traffic citation.

If you do not come to court, you go to jail. Happens everyday, everywhere.

Why does one have to appear in court for a traffic fine?

Here you pay it when you register your car next.

End o story.

In other parts of the world the offender has 7 days in which to pay the fine and failure to do so gets you a Court Order which in most cases ends up with an increase of the original fine.

If you are DUI its straight into the holding pen (as it should be IMO).

In this Third World country where I live if you have an unpaid parking ticket your car will be clamped and towed away.

I don't see anything wrong with that if you decide to ignore the law.

In Texas when you get a citation you can pay your fine by mail or in person. At the time of the citation you also receive a court date if you want to dispute the citation.

If you don't pay the fine by the date required and you don't shpw,up,on,your court date a warrant for your arrest is,issued.

It is the law and has been so for decades.

Don't you follow the law in your country? Don't you expect the citizens of your country to follow the law? Don't you say that when you go to another country you, mist follow their law?

Nothing dramatic here.....

We have a more civilized way of dealing with traffic offenses.

You can check on line on your fines, and pay by card online.

Or you pay the fines when you register your car.

Very rarely would the police knock on your door unless it is for a major offense like running away from an accident.

And what happens when you refuse to pay your fines.

We can also pay by card, I left that out.
