Doug, I presume those are rhetorical questions, since there is no way you will ever get a straight answer to them.

They won’t answer.

Dr. Easter done has.

He stated a few people getting pardons bc they were upset about a rigged election is no big deal.

The power to pardon is a sole power of the presidency. A power President Trump has been duly vested.

Like the cop killer that Biden pardoned?

And no, I would not ever support a pardon for someone (anyone) who was found guilty of a violent crime. Period.

I think the difference between guys on the left and guys on the right,is that the leftist support their politicians regardless.

I find fault and keep those in mind. Its why primaries are so important.

This election came down to incompetence vs. bloviating. America first vs. America last. The closed border vs. open border. Attacking inflation, vs. more spending and making it worse.

I would support a convicted felon being pardoned if there was grounds to believe they were wrongly convicted.

The justice system is not perfect. Mistakes happen. Juries are not able to be second guessed and if they make an error in judgement, the only remedy is a pardon.

That being said, in my mind a pardon should be a very high bar to get.

No question Trump is abusing this.

No question Biden also did.

Sorry, but you are wrong.

Biden gave a bunch of family members preemptive pardons. Trump has not done that.

Biden pardoned/commuted a bunch (more than any president to date) at the end of his term. Certainly several were poor choices.

Both abused the power of pardon.

President Biden gave pardons to folks who this incoming administration has targeted for prosecution for opposing Trump. Like your nominated head of the DOJ.

If you need to use language like worse, tge worse or President Trump.

There is no use arguing over pardons. Trump is now subject to term limits. I guess he central try to do away w term limit through an executive order. If that becomes the case one can choose not to vote for him.

Pardons are not for just those who you think are innocent. Never have been and never will.

It's all on video. If someone was using physical violence against others then, no, I would not support a pardon.

Possibly some of the trials could be redone, based on my understanding of the way these trials were conducted.

Pretty tough to get a fair trial for MAGA folks in DC.

How much time does the average person do for trespassing and assault, if it's their first conviction? I don't have any idea. Has anyone outside of J6 done years for trespassing?

I do. Especially when the evidence is voluminous and clear cut.

You have a videotape of the guy planting a bomb and shooting people. You have multiple eyewitness accounts supporting it. You have other evidence that supports it. It’s not a purely circumstantial case.

Then the death penalty is reasonable.

I also would support giving pardons to people who we now have DNA proof of innocence.

Nothing inconsistent there to me.

I look at the prosecution trying to use the death penalty as a stick to get a guilty plea as about as low as it gets.

If I was in charge I would never plead a case I brought up as a death penalty case, as I would think my evidence so solid that I gain nothing by pleading it out.

I did not say the death penalty was not reasonable. Again almost half the states have abolished it.

I said there is no comparing a pardon that releases one from prison and restores all civil liberties to a commutation to life in prison.

You are foolish if you think they compare.

There is no word salad in the OP. Everyone knows what is being discussed as various post responded to the prompt as intended.

The intent is clear.

I didn't read it all, but it looks like the background information, the dem quotes and such, are accurate.

It asked one essential question:

"More importantly, why did these people need preemptive pardons if they didn't do anything wrong?"

The answer should be obvious.

Because Trump threatened them with revenge, lawfare purely for his own satisfaction of retribution, using the powers of office and perverting the rule of law. He made his intentions clear. He's already doing his best to setup the process for such corruption. There should be no doubt.

If not for that, the preemptive pardons wouldn't be necessary.

Trump had explicitly, repeatedly said he would order targeted political persecutions of those who opposed him by telling the Truth or doing their sworn Duty.

Biden's "pre-emptive" pardons were prophylactic, to keep innocent people from catching a social disease from MAGA.

Trump, on the other hand, did exactly what he has accused other Countries of doing: he released violent criminals and convicted enemies of the United States onto our streets.

No, there was very little chance any of Trump's planned political prosecutions would have resulted in convictions that withstood Appeal, because hurting Trump's feelings doesn't (yet) violate Federal Law. Trump's revenge would simply be his standard playbook, disrupting his enemies' lives and bankrupting them through dragging them into court for years. He has bankrupted hundreds of contractors dumb enough to work for him in New York and New Jersey that way.
