I knew before I looked there would be something stupid here... Under our Extradition Treaty with the Bahamas we had to specify the charges (and penalties) the accused was facing; adding additional charges (which wouldn't, by the way, impose additional penalties) would require asking The Bahamas for permission to do so. In the original charges to Sam Bankman-Fried, count 8 was conspiracy to make unlawful campaign donations. The Bahamas specifically left that out of their agreement to expedite. Then further, when the Grand Jury indicted him on that charge…The Bahamas entered an objection that they did not consent to this charge in extradition. Then USA just takes the position to not prosecute without even making an effort to persuade The Bahamas to withdraw their objection.
