It shows what a characterless idiot he is.

He could have left them at half mast, and mentioned Carter in his speech!

That would have gone down a lot better!

But, what do expect from a career criminal!

So many people were thrown in jail because they listened to him 4 years ago.

And doesn’t just get away Scott free, he is in charge too!

American politics at its finest! rotflmo

Doesn't seem nearly as bad as letting thousands live in snow covered tents an ramshackle other means of housing MONTHS after a devastating hurricane nor people burning up in preventable wildfires with again, massive loss of housing and infrastructure.

Outrage really misplaced here. Hypocrites.

Is the management of local woodland or clearing of brush etc which might fuel fires and the absence of water in fire hydrants with which to fight fires not a state issue?

You need to 'brush' up on our Fed and their regs. They have a whole lot to say and rule about what one can do with the 'environment' along with a state. Then there is things like the lack of response by other Fed agencies, like FEMA. No National Guard to help fight fires, help save people. Jeeze, I could GO on but will let you think about it some more.

That's besides the point. Making a BFD out of a flag when thousands of people around the country are suffering and never commenting on that is pathetic and insensitive.

This is kind of the type of thing that I cringe on with Trump… his need for continual feeding of his ego.

He ordered the flag at half staff for 30 days when President Bush died. It’s protocol.

That being said, I doubt too many voted for him out of recognition of his human qualities; they voted for him because they couldn’t tolerate the democrat policies of Biden and Harris couldn’t separate herself from them.

Because he’s an egotist.

You know that. I know that. Lane knows that, JTex knows that, and so on.

Your implied point is why did so many support him.

That has been stated as well. They liked his policies better than that of Kamala Harris as she espoused them in her campaign.

Trump blathering about the flags should be at full staff in honor of his ascension (or is it immaculation in his eyes?) is embarrassing.

Nevertheless, I think most of us can see that some embarrassment is less of a problem than 4 more years of the kind of leadership we’ve had.

I knew what Trump was. I think he’s the same level of crap as Biden, just a different side.

I didn’t support him, but I couldn’t support Harris either.

In 4 years someone else gets to sit in the big boy chair. I would not be horribly surprised by some degree of embarrassment and “I told you so” from the left. Hopefully, Trump will do well enough to force the democrats to offer better than the retreaded Biden rhetoric. I hope that whoever the GOP nominated next time is of higher caliber than DJT.

I will decide how I’m voting in 4 years… in four years.

I know you can be a bit slow on the uptake BUT surely you understand that it is Trump that has raised the whole flag at half staff issue. It was a non-issue until HE made it an issue. I guess you think that him doing so is pathetic and insensitive. I agree. Please try to keep up.

I thought what differentiate a good society from a bad one is humanity!!

Lowering the flag has been done for ages, as a sign of respect.

Why do they have to change it just because a childish idiot wants to??

It is a tradition that flags be lowered to half staff for 30 days in the case of a deceased President. In fact, that tradition is embodied in Title 4 Section 7 of the US Code:

“The flag shall be flown at half-staff 30 days from the death of the President or a former President; 10 days from the day of death of the Vice President, the Chief Justice or a retired Chief Justice of the United States, or the Speaker of the House of Representatives; from the day of death until interment of an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, a Secretary of an executive or military department, a former Vice President, or the Governor of a State, territory, or possession; and on the day of death and the following day for a Member of Congress.”

Rest assured that if he could Trump would insist that the letter of the law be applied in the event of his passing. He’s just a piece of shit. Always has been. Always will be.

I just got back home from a trip to Florida. Drove from Idaho to Palm Bay and back. During this trip, Jimmy Carter passed away. Flags were lowered to half mast. On my way back home, in every state through which I passed, some flags were lowered, some were not. I felt no sense of outrage either way.
A few years back, flags were flown at half mast to honor a deceased drug dealer and addict. That was kind of outrageous. Do I think Trump should be flying his American flag at half mast for thirty days? If that is traditional, sure. In the end, I don't really care. Regards, Bill

Why does this matter? It is yet again further evidence that Trump's first and last priority is, and always has been, himself. His ego controls even something as trivial to most folks as the tradition of flags flying at half staff to honor a deceased President. There is no America first with Trump. It will always be himself first. Even when it comes to something as seemingly trivial as this. The sad part is that rather than call this out, his faithful followers like Abbott and Johnson simply pick up the banner and carry it forward, embarrassing themselves in so doing. Sort of astounding that folks lack the chutzpah to simple tell the man, stop being foolish and always trying to feed your ego.
