This is an interstate issue w the avian bird flu affecting commercial chicken, egg production, and even wild birds. Consumer pricing is a consequence of this interstate problem. Instead of working to address this problem. The Trump Administration is running around illegally resigning civil servants through Musk’s orders. Musk did order it.

If this was happening under a Dem Administration the fake right in here would light their heads on fire. They would be right to do so.

Confound it folks. The Administration fired a bunch of FDA civil servants and are scrambling to higher them back. This is not intelligent, set the legal issues aside. It is dangerous.

There is not a lot to study about avian flu. The science is known. Due to wild birds being efficient reservoirs and vectors…it is difficult to control. Also the fact that influenza A(H5N1) infects almost all animals including man makes it difficult. Summer is usually an effective end. Effective vaccines have been made eons.

I thought we were doing ‘herd immunity’ these days with these ‘fake news’ diseases.

Influenza. Polio. Smallpox. Measles. Cancer. What a bunch of Libtard propaganda started by Obama.

We can easily stop it with dewormer, intravenous Creoline, or by worshipping Donald Trumps used gold foil toilet tissue.

First death reported in the West Texas measles outbreak.

Likely not the last.

If only there were some proven safe and effective way to prevent measles, but alas...

The law is that all children except for those with a documented history of allergy to the vaccine or other medical issue and those with religious beliefs that exempt them are to be vaccinated before attending school…. Except illegal aliens can’t be questioned or forced to get the vaccines.

We’ve had measles outbreaks here in MN…. In the Somali community. They refused to get vaccinated even though they were supposed to in order to come here as refugees.

Texas outbreak is principally noncitizens.

Your point?

These aren’t the Trump MAGA folks that are spreading it.

And the vaccine refusers will undoubtedly pay the price if they get the disease. Adult measles is nasty.

To do so would mean you need to let it rage through the flock. You can't sell sick birds, you can't sell dead birds, you can't sell the ggs. But you will have to remove the dead ones each day, remove the eggs, and keep feeding them, so there are costs.
Most poultry farms specialize as well. Either eggs (consumed or incubated) or meat. Meat chicken are bought as chicks and raised to slaughter-size within 2 months. Wouldn't make sense to keep those to start a new colony with those who survive. Same with the farms producing eggs. And even if you start over with the ones who survive on a farm producing eggs. Up to 90% of the birds might die, and then with those 10% you first have to build up again, and hope they're actually immune, which isn't a given. That takes a lot of times, and risk (also risk of infection to workers).
Much cheaper to kill off the bunch and buy new stock. Plus the removal and desinfecting the farms removes a huge reservoir (10k+ chickens on a farm, sometimes hunderds of thousands).

Kill off the bunch and start over is likely cheaper.

when i was a kid we had to do that after an outbreak as none were able to eat the chicken, ducks or even the eggs and as you said way cheaper to start from scatch than feeding birds or eggs no one will eat ...

But then you don't keep a huge reservoir of sick and dying birds to pass it along to sparrows and starlings to carry to the next farm, or cattle herd, or covey of quail...

I have read some reports that some birds, such as quail and pigeons, doves do not get AI. It is thought, not sure if proven, because of a higher body temperature. I do not know if that will actually be the case.

Also, keep in mind a huge percentage of the supermarket egg supply comes from thousands of caged birds kept indoors in massive barns. They never see the light of day or feel the wind in their faces. There are at least six of them crammed into a cage for the 18 months they will produce eggs and probably 20,000 inside that barn.

Workers have to follow strict biohazard protocalls yet with all this, AI is still getting inside these barns. With hens kept in such stressful conditions it is no surprise to me they get sick once the virus gets into the barns. The question is, how is the virus getting in?

It could be as simple as sparrows.

I've started buying eggs from local sources who have free ranging hens. It's the time of year where they start laying a lot.

My recommendation is if you can, support the local market.

The eggs are much better.

But I crack them one at a time in a separate bowl, just in case.

There is a reason I get my eggs from a lady about 8 miles away.

She only has about 25-30 birds and they are well taken care of.

Store bought eggs just can’t compare.

I saw a photo someone posted showing what looked like lots and lots of dead cranes. I do not know the location or the story but it looked bad.

AI happens 2X a year and has from time immemorial. In my opinion it would be very difficult to concoct a truly effective vaccine for it.

Commercial poultry raisers have not done a good job if their barns are getting infected.

BTW- Glad you are supporting a local free range farmer or hobbyist. Feed prices have not gone down so anything they can make helps the bottom line. Consider tipping your supplier.

I have hatching eggs going to Turkey this year and live birds to Puerto Rico. I've had breeding stock go as far as Fairbanks and Wrangle this past year. I too have to have my flock tested for multiple diseases each year to do so.

Yes! Cartons are important. I often give away buckets of eggs to elderly friends who can no longer farm. I have warned those who have been gifted that the supply is drying up by this weekend for awhile as I am setting breeding pens now and it is all about hatching the next champions.

They can provide the best advice, based on the best science. That's their mission. Have they failed? Or were they dismissed based on nonsense and lies?

If a source for the best science is quelled, then what's left?

Good thing Musk fired a bunch of CDC people...

The CDC cannot do anything for the birds. They couldn't even do anything about the rona.

Not while being kneekapped by Trump.

I could care less about political affiliation. Anti-vaxxers can go straight to hell. They are 99% of the problem.
