In another thread I joked the US would make China broke, just like us, between borrowing from them, and they supporting Russia.
It got me to wondering.
China and Japan own about a trillion each in treasury notes. Just as we print money with nothing to back it...... Doesnt China have the ability to do the same? Couldnt they, or any other country, print money to buy treasury notes?
It seems like global debt in general could all be one big ponzi scheme.
Not my area of expertise, just curious.

The derivatives market is now a lot bigger than it was in 2008. The players realized that they'd be bailed out and did what was indicated.

Servicing the debt could be a real problem as interest rates are raised.

I don't know if funds borrowed from SS are at a fixed rate in effect at the time it was borrowed, or if money paid back is credited first to the account having having the highest rate.

It's appalling that the Gov has to borrow money in order to fund the 2017 tax cut because it does't generate enough replacement revenue to pay for itself.

Not exactly - what's appalling is that SINCE WE HAVEN'T BEEN ON A BUDGET SINCE 2009 we didn't make sensible choices in our continuing resolutions to take it into account .. and, frankly, when you are 2 trillion over spent, 200 billion sort of gets lost
