Hundreds of Hezbollah fighters were reportedly killed or wounded this afternoon when the pagers they used to communicate exploded, according to Lebanese security sources.

The stunning incident, which saw scores of Hezbollah members severely injured throughout southern Lebanon and in its capital Beirut, constitutes the single largest intelligence breach in the militant outfit's history, a Hezbollah official said.

The sudden and unexpected detonations gave way to widespread panic and chaotic scenes in Beirut, with various images depicting victims sporting significant wounds as they lay on the ground surrounded by terrified bystanders.

Worth noting that apparently Iran's Ambassador to Lebanon had a Hezbollah pager...

That attack took some balls.... literally.

people speculating its malware causing rapid heating and explosion of the lithium batteries.

2700 pagers evidently.

Could a battery that fits inside a pager cause that powerful of an explosion? And, batteries get very hot before they explode. Seems like something the dude wearing the pager would have sensed.

Some sort of explosive.

Yeah, the batteries overheating might have been the initiator but there was some sweetening in the recipe. Overloaded batteries catch on fire, they don't explode like a small grenade.

I've read many stories over the years about their out of the box thinking. When the Israelis want you, you'll never know where, when, or how it's going to happen.

It was "leaked" sometime back that Israel could hack the phones Hezballah was using, so they acquired a bunch of pagers to improve security.

I'm guessing they got such a sweet deal they didn't read the small print explaining the penalties for early withdrawal from the service plan.

According to ABC NEWS tonight, the Israelis knew that Hezbollah had gone to pagers in lieu of traceable cell phones. They discovered the major pager importer for Lebanon and interdicted his shipments over 2 years, opened them up, planted explosives inside, resealed the packages, and let them be distributed to Hezbollah. Then, at a selected time, a signal was sent simultaneously to 2700 pagers and they all exploded. FUCKING BRILLIANT! tu2

The IDF knew that nobody in the last 20yrs would be ordering pagers other than Hezbollah operatives.
Won’t be too hard to identify the jokers whom those pagers were handed out to now.

What a great operation!

Word is (I cannot confirm) that the Israelis were the impetus for the switch to pagers, a well-placed leak about cell-phone interception here, someone "overheard" complaining they couldn't hack pagers there, and Bob's Your Uncle!

Thus my beagle/rabbit analogy.

The Israelis ARE noted for their generosity towards their Arab neighbors...

Apparently, the Mossad isn't done yet.

https://www.cnn.com/world/live...-intl-hnk/index.html

>>>At least 14 people were killed and more than 450 were injured, according to health officials in Lebanon, on Wednesday after walkie-talkies detonated in a fresh wave of explosions, one day after pager blasts across the country killed at least 12 people.

It really does. Folks are going to have to start paying a lot closer attention to who they buy their commo gear from and what the chain of custody was before the purchase.
