For those who already know and those who don't yet know, here's a demonstration of why the AR is so popular.

I forgot to mention in my earlier post the word modular. That's a big reason for popularity besides accuracy and reliability and versatility.

If one likes shooting just for the fun of it, Well---

Do You Need This Much AR?

Really? That's the only issue that's important to you? Or the most important issue in this election?

It's not to me. I own one AR, and it's my least favorite gun. But I think it is likely that banning ARs would be just a first step to going after "sniper rifles" like the ones I enjoy shooting and hunting with.

So I oppose an "assault weapons" ban. And I hold it against politicians that advocate such.

It's not the most important issue for me though. Keeping Trump out of office is more important.

Trump has been coy about his policy positions, but policy issues like environmental protection, reduction in fossil fuel usage, helping Ukraine against Russian aggression, avoiding the appointment of more activists to the bench, reproductive freedom for women, and acceptance of LGBQ+ people are issues that are more important to me than a particular rifle I use for recreation.

So,.... it's got a place to store a cigar. That's just great.

A bayonet lug! I was hoping.

A 10# 308 winchester that has ambidextrous knobs and levers so I can shoot with either hand! Since I'm left handed I can see the value of rattling off a magazine with the side of me that has no prayer of hitting anything.

AR's are Legos. He calls them "modular" but that's actually Lego's.

"Hits hard!" he said over and over and over. "Hits hard" on steel targets. Very impressive. Hits hard as opposed to what? A 17hmr or a 458?

I mentioned recently that my aunt gifted me a model 722 in 257 Roberts and a model 99 in 250-3000. The Legos aren't in the same league.

As always Scott, I appreciate your perspectives and reality check. Smiler

I haven't shot much of anything, any gun, for a while. I've lost enthusiasm for it, compared to yesteryear.

I have always shot right-handed, right eye dominant. But now my left eye is dominant. So I shoot left-handed, which is awkward. The ARs with ejection port to the right could be a problem. Just another thing to worry about.

All my bolt actions are right-handed. I have several single-shot rifles and like them because shooting them left-handed is easier. I bought a lever action in 44 mag in January this year, and accessories. I haven't shot it much yet. It has a picatinny rail in front of the top ejection port. My idea is to use some red dot sight. Hopefully that setup will make my transition to left-handed less awkward.

I would sell most everything I have that goes bang, except 3 or 4, but I haven't figured out the best way.

At my age I have become envious of friends who have gone through and past the de-cluttering stage. I know two specifically who have hired a decluttering specialist. I don't know the real term for such a person. Too much stuff can be a problem.

There's plenty of stuff out there if you would choose to own just one left handed rifle.
