You mean shooting a criminal with an AK47 was wrong?

I wouldn't know who was right or wrong here, but it's a guarantee I think that if my dumb ass was in the middle of a considered to be violent protest and I was carrying an ak47 I'd get myself shot. And yeah, if that happened to me, most of my peers would say, "Scott got his dumb ass shot.".

I don't have the time to do the research on that, but I would say that it will happen far sooner than when Jessie Jackson, Al Sharpton and Ben Krump show up to demand justice for a white victim of a crime committed by a black. I'll even throw in Joe Biden. And btw, both men in this case were white, so your post had fuck all to do with the subject.

Thanks to Abbott, carrying an "AK" in public in Texas doesn't make a man a criminal, Saeed. "Prosecutors said Perry, who was stationed at Fort Hood, initiated the fatal encounter when he ran a red light and drove his vehicle into a crowd gathered at the protest. Foster was openly carrying an assault-style rifle – legal in Texas – and approached Perry’s car and motioned for him to lower his window, at which point Perry fatally shot him with a handgun, prosecutors said." Perry broke the law by running a red light and drove into a crowd. Foster was carrying an "AK" and motioned for Perry to lower his window. Neither of those actions are against the law or made Foster a criminal. Saeed, what crime did Foster commit?

Someone comes up to my window when I am legally parked, I am shooting first. This is the Governor’s propagative. So be it. I hope it has a political consequence. Anyone who would hear hear this fact pattern is a disgrace.

. . . we can dispense with juries. Just let folks like Abbott and Lane act as judge, jury and executioner since they know way more than twelve people who sat in a jury box and heard all the evidence then deliberated to reach a verdict. Mike

We have rule of law in our country. A jury found this guy guilty and he was duly sentenced. Now, for political reasons designed to gain favor with the loons like Lane, Abbott abrogates the jury finding. It demonstrates contempt for the legal system in his own state. A governor is supposed to promote, not denigrate, the government, including the court system, instead of sowing discord and animosity

But the governor used the law and followed the law to pardon the convict right? I know what your saying but "the law" gave the governor that authority. I think the real outage over pardoning is gonna come if Trump regains office.

I guess so Scott. If you accept the idea that an executive ought to be able to pardon anybody, anytime for anything. "The law" erroneously presumed that there would be executives who wouldn't pardon people for political gain. -Every damn thing is your own fault if you are any good.

Except pretty much all pardons granted of late have had a pretty strong element of politics to them. Trump probably pardoned more folks who had no overt ties to the GOP than any other president has pardoned folks who were not politically connected. Not that I am denying his motives may well have been political.

It is the Governor’s prerogative. The procedure was followed. The law permits this. The remedy for those Texans that disagree is to vote and campaign against the Governor. The other option is to change the state constitution. Oh no, our leg do tradition always assume me pardons for political reasons. It goes back to the King being sovereign. Washington granting rebellion participants pardons, the Civil War pardons and amnesty have political underpinnings. You think when President Trump pardoned that rouge AZ sheriff, it was not political? Oh, Nixon commuting Jimmy Hoffa’s federal sentence was political. There is nothing unlawful, nor improper about it. Distasteful? Yes it is.

Growing up we raised a pig for slaughter. I have ate homemade souses meat. I have been inside as many carcasses as you. If not more. Not that slaughtering pigs has anything to do with this business. How many culverts have you backfilled by hand? You really do not want to play this game.

There is nothing legally incorrect about this pardon. It is the Governor’s prerogative. Folks who do not like how he uses his vested discretionary power can vote, campaign, and use this to raise money against him. That is how the system is designed to work. The other option is change the Texas Constitution removing this traditional power, or subject it to a confirmation vote in the Legislature.
|

I'm born and raised in Texas, born only a mile north of the border. I support the pardon, but what I don't support is open carry. I think it's a mistake to allow anyone to openly carry a firearm. And, anyone that does, should expect increased attention from both their fellow citizens and law enforcement. If you do it and get shot, well, you shouldn't have done that.

I support the Constitution, including the First and the Second Amendments. You have a right to free speech and you have a right to bear arms, but you don't have a right to mix the two. If I'm publicly carrying a firearm in a protest, I'm suppressing your right to disagree.

Abbott appoints the members of the Board of Pardons. And, he basically asked them to pardon the guy. The decision was incorrect because he had a trial, per our Constitution and the laws of the state, and a jury found him guilty. The matter was decided lawfully and via proper legal procedures. The pardon is a political ploy designed to appeal to knuckleheads like Lavaca and Easter. -Every damn thing is your own fault if you are any good.
