Harvard has survived a few kings and a pile of presidents who come and go.
It will survive this one.

What is woke?

A Harvard graduate

What is anti-woke?

1. The opposite of 'woke' is cynical, bigoted, racist, homophobic, antisemitic, ignorant, religiously intolerant… or in some, rigid religious fixated.

2. A propaganda-based ideology that seeks to undermine the institutions of the United States by creating false narratives of victimhood to the ideology's subscribers; using this narrative to prop up the ideology's agenda through destruction and replacement of societal norms.

trump is such a fucking baby. I see he's issuing orders to the Board of Directors of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting to cease funding for NPR and the CPB because he doesn't like what they say about him and because they are suing the administration. He's too stupid to understand it's not a federal executive agency and he can't order a private corporation to do, or not do, anything. Moron.

With a 53 Billion dollar endowment, Harvard will be around longer than the IRS.

Why do we give Harvard money?
They make so much money from their endowment that I don’t understand why they are screaming so much
And it’s a business so why not tax them like any other company?

I could explain it, but you have demonstrated in the past you cannot understand.

Harvard gets about 9 billion. 7 billion of that goes to afflicted hospitals.

Medical research and health are roles of government.

actual reality - like, facts, not delusions, Harvards has about 50 BILLION in endowments, about 2 billion in government spending - ZERO of that 2 billion goes to "afflicted" ( you might have meant affiliated) hospitals, as its research grants - when do you get tired of being wrong and flying off half-cocked?

you should start with trying to stop being an elitist ahole that is usually wrong .. oh, i get you don't ACCEPT you are usually wrong, that's part of the diagnosis

Endowment la do Lt come from the Federal government.

Primary source says 686 million in Fed funds.

Secondary sources say 9 billion.

Endowments are typically restricted for use by the terms of the endowment.

If we are for the rich paying their fair share, I guess I don't see why educational institutions with huge endowments (read investments) get tax exempt status... The folks that work at and teach at theses institutions don't get tax breaks for being at a "government" research institution.

So they would have to pay appropriate capital gains on the proceeds of their endowment funds...

Because in the biggest of bib, big pictures things like education, art, culture should be supported. More education is better, more fine art is better. Philosophy, science research, historical analysis is what furthers a culture and society.

Yes, America should support cancer research at Yale. Yes America should support scientists at MIT. Art pieces like The Statue of Liberty, The Washington Memorial and Yosemite should be supported by the nation.

Is (2) meant to describe "woke"? If so, it pretty well hits the nail on the head. Bill.

Well, Bill, nice try. Smiler

I'm trying to analyze and understand somethings outside my realm, so I often look outside my realm for answers.

I can and did look up definitions of what woke is, but I didn't want to bore you with all that. So, I tried defining it by what it isn't.

In short - it's the opposite of anti-woke. Smiler

So, GOPers are anti-woke. I doubt that you can argue with that.

Thus, 1. and 2. go together in the explanation of anti-woke. It's an inseparable cause and effect relationship.

There is a video about it:

I understand everyone wants free money but where does it end?
We are up to our ears in debt
If any of the institution etc make their own money why we give them more and if you receive someone elses’s money, they maybe abiding by their request might be appropriate
Anyway, it’s always good to ask question so killing messenger for asking questions is not necessarily productive

I agree with everything you wrote.

BUT!!!! When its not education, no funding!

When a church gets political it is threatened with losing tax exempt status. When a school, any school, is indoctrinating, left or right, they are not educating they should lose funding and tax exempt status.

As Scott said education is too important!

The problem is how "education", "indoctrination", "a church gets political" are defined. And further problems arise in the Rightists' remedy, which inevitably turns unconstitutional and authoritarian.

It should be obvious, even the definitions are polarized. And IMO it's not objective on the Right. Ask a Rightist the difference in teaching critical thinking vs indoctrination. The answer will inevitably hinge on ideology or religion since so many Rightists have given up on critical thinking long ago, if they ever had a clue in the first place.
