Can you even believe that now that SCOTUS has ruled on the matter some States, including California are going to implement that ruling and remove the encampments? Outrageous. Why every side walk, median and other public place should serve as housing, and rest facilities for the homeless. I get that you don't like CA politics but would you decide any different if you were Newsome? Many folks, including myself were waiting for this SCOTUS ruling and I am glad to see the encampments being dealt with. This time SCOTUS got it right.

What are they doing with these homeless people then? ~Ann

Not allowing them to occupy public property. I thought that was what the conservatives wanted? Now, all in the sudden you have empathy for the homeless?

Even if this is a misstep, I hope it's a misstep in the right direction. Way overdue and hopefully there are adequate services my fellow Americans can now utilize. If not, I'd hope more are quickly on the way.

So, you cannot answer the question? Empathy? Where's yours? ~Ann

I did answer the question....California is no longer allowing the homeless to occupy public property. That is what they are doing with these homeless people. I have empathy for those experiencing a terrible situation and trying to change their circumstances. I believe people deserve and should receive a hand up from a bad spot. I do not believe allowing encampments on public property is beneficial to those experiencing homelessness or to the rest of us. Does this seem like the right place to raise a child to you? A tent at the intersection of two busy roads? https://www.dailycamera.com/20...en-down-in-longmont/ Do you think leaving encampments in place is the right answer or are you just looking for an opportunity to kick Newsome a bit? I don't care for California politics or Newsome but he is making the right decision in this matter.

Maybe hoping some will go back east for the summer. A few people actively work on the problem, the rest just complain about it. If it was easy, it would already be a non-problam. Since it's hard, most would rather pretend it's solved with the current efforts. I think I remember a time when cities and even a few small towns maintained public restrooms downtown, and you could wash your face in a gas station restroom without having to get a key from the attendant. The lefties are spending way too much money on illegal aliens to take care of less fortunate Americans..... .

Not to mince words, but for most of us our ancestors were illegal aliens. Ask a Lakota Sioux, or a Cherokee. Chiricahua Apaches had their own approach to the problem, not squeamish like modern-day Rrpublicans. Quakers bought their way in, like good capitalists. French-Canadian trappers brought new business. Others brought weapons and new slave markets. Priests just brought what priests bring... Our baseline spending on the mentally handicapped isn't what it should be, and it certainly isn't what it was before Ronald Reagan emptied California's state mental institutions without establishing alternatives. Keep in mind that Adam Lanza lived in Newtown, where the Fairfield Hills Hospital could have been his home if the governor hadn't closed it to save a little tax money. Instead, a whole town was traumatized. Of course there is more to it that just that, but that much is inescapable. TomP Our country, right or wrong. Tom, I believe those mental hospitals were closed down due to many reasons. A lot had to do with the insane being medicated so heavily. The early years of my LE career involved transporting psychotics to the local 'insane asylum'. In fact our jail medical staff were trained and administered thorazine, haldol and other things to the very violent. Brings back memories of the thorazine shuffle and seeing such people so medicated. I think these institutions went out of favor more-so politically and were unpopular due to real and or perceived rights violations. They were not fun places to go to at all. No one wanted to deal with the insane. Really sad as there wasn't help out there for them. ~Ann
