That YouTube clip could have been done the other way around as well. The truth is, we are choosing to make the choice for President of the US a choice between two old men who both say stupid stuff. On either side, supporters are able to justify their support for their idiot because the other candidate is an idiot too!
I have been watching presidential campaigns and conventions play out for 65 years, and there has never been another like this. The US has been through nearly eight years of the worst leadership we have ever had, yet we are choosing to try for at least four more. No matter who wins the upcoming election, America will be the loser. Regards, Bill

Bill, do you and Doc Butler commiserate together?

Your post seems innocuous enough at first read, But, I read it at least three times and thought about it.

I see false equivalence narratives herein all the time. I think they are part of the problem - harmful in and of themselves for several reasons.

First, they are an expression of perceived reality, but not reality in fact.

They don't address real problems or offer solutions.

Such false equivalence puts the whole issue on the same plane, when it is definitely not.

Lesser of two evils? I say BS. That's a false equivalence narrative, and more.

I can't make my point clear enough with mere words.

So, in addition to the videos linked above, I offer this:

https://youtu.be/OvDidjWWhIA?si=SAFcRMbeabBXWpf9

His Party

https://youtu.be/lSX1mJLo204?si=Sa2gW4T9kybdctv9

Trump is an Anti-Christ

==============================================

Here's a narrative for you and others to think about:

Suppose Christian Nationalists and/or evangelicals KNOW Trump is an antichrist, if not THE antichrist.

That's not a wild supposition.

Christians believe the antichrist is a transitional figure and moment in prophesy, with the second-coming and rapture to follow soon. IOW, pussy grabbing Trump doesn't matter. He's just the prophesy link in the end-times beliefs. Also, the country, especially the heathen masses, mostly democrats, don't matter either. The Rapture is all that matters, and all that will join them in heaven.

IOW, for those Christians I'm referring to, Trump is the ultimate conflation of Church and State.

Explain their support in an alternate and plausible way.

Or, make a false equivalence out of that.

ME, he is correct that each side is now so entrenched that whilst they criticise the other side they cannot see the failings of their own position.

I think it’s more pronounced ( a bit) on one side than the other as I don’t see the Dems holding their noses and supporting someone who is the very anthesis of their moral core values.

Look, I happen to believe that Trump is, in many respects, the personification of evil, and I am ashamed that so many people, normally intelligent, have been taken in by his bullshit. Nonetheless, this does not excuse the response on the other side.
Was the assault on the capitol a despicable event? You bet it was, and anyone, right or left should be able to see it for what it was.
On the other hand, were the assaults on cities like Portland and Seattle similarly despicable? You're damn right they were and anyone, left or right, should be able to see them for what they were rather than make excuses and point fingers.
We are in a situation where our lawmakers and representatives are spending all of their time in combat against opposing ideology rather than in service to the nation, and the result is to tear the country apart.
In the upcoming election, neither candidate is a leader which will put the needs of the nation first.
The support of either candidate for religious reasons is a manifestation of mass lunacy and nothing more. Is it widespread? I'm not sure, but I suspect it is surprisingly widespread.
When I look at these two candidates, I can't help but compare them to previous presidents who represented their respective parties. Speaking honestly, how does Donald Trump measure up against Dwight Eisenhour? How does Joe Biden measure up against JFK? In my view, neither of those were great presidents but they were several flights above these clowns.
I have to repeat, regardless of who wins in a contest between these two, America is the loser. Neither party has the interests of the nation at heart. The Republicans seem to have chosen a candidate who is really just for himself. The Democrats seem to be going with a shambling old man who is less and less aware of his place with each passing day.
You don't have to tell me how bad Donald Trump is; I think he's terrible. At the same time, there is no way that can validate Joe Biden as a candidate.
As far as track records are concerned, it is truly difficult to say which one did the most damage to the nation in their respective terms. Socially, Trump was probably worse. Economically, Joe takes the cake. If one has to title the last eight years, I think "Dumb and Dumber" would have to get the nod. Regards, Bill.

Just how in the sheep-dippin' Hell has Joe Biden "damaged" the U.S. economy? By adding 14 million jobs, raising GDP growth, record corporate profits, record stock markets, rebuilding neglected infrastructure?

Well, I know why I'm "entrenched" and that's because I see the "failings" of the side to which I oppose. And I have said what I think those failings are specifically, many times. I can't speak for left-leaning people in general, but most likely we share views on the matter. Wink

I also think it's speculation that the Right can't see "failings" of their positions. It's just as easy and probable to say that they do see what some of us call failings, but they just choose to call it something else, or they really don't care.

Also, you missed one of my points. Who says that Trump is the anthesis of his supporter's moral core values? Really, think about that.

It's those who oppose Trump and judging Trump supporters who are saying that. Trump supporters aren't saying that about themselves. So, what does that fact say?

I'll make a wild guess!!!!

Trump isn't at all the anthesis of GOPer's core values, but instead he's the epitome.

Let that sink in.

That's in addition to the religious aspects I wrote about above.

Back to "entrenched" and not seeing the failings of my own position. All my posts are an open invitation for anyone to explain to me, precisely, the failings of my positions. I don't mean personal attacks or conclusions pretending/presented to be analysis or facts with no real support. I always welcome persuasive debate based on logic and evidence. If I mess that up, then please point it out as a failing.

Which of those do you support President Biden forcing down by Executive Order? Should he nationalize food production and distribution? Impose nationwide rent controls?

As for electricty:

quote:
"Utilities are rebuilding their grids, which is expensive," Wolfe said. "About half the cost of electricity that a consumer buys is the wires. So just because the cost of natural gas fuel has come down doesn't mean it's a one-to-one relationship."

Large parts of the grid were built decades ago and are in need of replacement — even before the upgrade announced by the White House last year to accommodate more electric cars and the rollout of more solar and wind power. Both those factors are likely to keep electricity costs for consumers relatively high for the near future, experts say.

One can always find a meme that serves affirmation of already belief.

That doesn't mean it represents reality, at all. It just means that's your reality. It might reconcile, but evidence may show otherwise.

Anyway, I did a quick search on the question: "is the cost of living up under biden administration?"

Results:

Choose your poison.

Note that many of the links are from the Govt., more specifically - the first one is from House Republicans, which we all know always tells the truth like it is. Wink

You know - The govt that's here to help.

I can see no reason to re elect either candidate.

Trump and Biden both failed at Corona and Afghanistan. The nation further divided under both. Trumps effort with DPRK did not bear fruit and the southern border will be the avenue for a coming terrorist attack, not to mention both Presidents failures in The War on Drugs.

There's nothing to like in either

You do realise that those figures could relate to any western country ? Our food costs, rental costs, gas prices etc have all increased. I assume that's Bidens fault too?

One has an America/American First policy mentality. He is a capitalist who be believes in low taxes, minimalist government, strong production driven economy, and non-economy binding regulations. He believes in keeping us competitive with China on multi-levels but first and foremost with a strong fossil-fuel based energy plan. He believes in iron-clad closed borders and that biology dictates one’s gender. He will drop the hammer on a terrorist in the blink of an eye. Belligerent governments fear him for strength and known ability of counter-punching.

The other hates traditional America and all she has stood for and is pretty much 180 on all the above.

Not to mention that there is stark differences in their cognitive ability that will be demonstrated vividly if there is ever a debate.

Let's mention it.

"Cognitive ability".

Cognitive skills, also called cognitive functions, cognitive abilities or cognitive capacities, are skills of the mind, as opposed to other types of skills such as motor skills. Some examples of cognitive skills are literacy, self-reflection, logical reasoning, abstract thinking, critical thinking, introspection and mental arithmetic. Cognitive skills vary in processing complexity, and can range from more fundamental processes such as perception and various memory …
Wikipedia

Skills of the mind..........

Hummm

Yes, indeed - the stark differences are so relevant.

The FACT is that ONE difference is so stark that it bewilders/overwhelms fact checkers, especially live broadcasts of Trump speeches.

It's truly amazing.

The fact that these leftists feel the need to edit footage so that people get the right message shows they are every bit as much propagandists as the folks they are accusing.

Politicians lie. It’s part of their natural instinct.

If you are a fact check, you had better keep your opinions out of it.

There is no such thing as a partial lie. Either they lied or you give the information and let the reader decide truthfulness.

I think there's more to it than you say.

"Edit footage" is not what people like Maddow are saying. Ya gotta twist it to reach the conclusion you state. There was a lot of talk some time ago about Trump getting so much free airtime just because his lies were so newsworthy in and of themselves, per se. This notion obviously gave too much credit to people deemed rational to sort it out. Also, obviously that wasn't what happened. He just got free airtime to spew lies and his supporters believed him.

I think it's time to up the tech on real-time fact check, maybe split screen with short delay, and let Trump's lies air. Trump cultists are gonna believe his lies anyway. If they don't get it from truth telling sources they will get it from Fox and Newsmax, etc.

Your comment "politicians lie" is another of your false equivalency narratives. No politician lies like Trump, never has.

I think your quasi-analysis about partial lies. and the either-or binary choice of pure information only or otherwise any perspective added amounts to a lie, is false. Name one "news" source committed to just pure info and let the reader/listener decide truthfulness. The closest I can think of is PBS and NPR, and neither lies.

And his mate Kevin O’Leary is Trump supporter.

I will go a step farther than Cuban.

I would walk over hot coals to vote for Trump or any (R) for that matter over Biden.

What Biden has done to South Texas…

…well I will just say inexcusable. Makes me sick to my stomach.

Metaphorically, that's what you are doing anyway.

The pain to the country is of no consequence.

I have been watching presidential campaigns and conventions play out for 65 years, and there has never been another like this. The US has been through nearly eight years of the worst leadership we have ever had, yet we are choosing to try for at least four more. No matter who wins the upcoming election, America will be the loser. Regards, Bill

No…what I am doing now is easy for me…no pain at all. Why? Because I know it is the right direction go.

The leftist mindset has been allowed to run roughshod over this beloved country since the early 1960s. The change it has invoked is mind-boggling to me. It has to be checked and common sense restored — before it too late.

Thankfully, most of the country has no desire to return to the 1950's despite the attempts of fanatical far right Christian Conservatives. barf

Hi Steve,
Glad you are back. Been worried about you.

Don’t you think it is ironic that you choose to love guns of yesteryear? Are you sure you have no love?

Does the Case of David and Bathsheba Justify Adultery Today?
The Old Testament account of David and Bathsheba’s scandalous affair is a sad episode in history. Does their conduct serve as a precedent, justifying adulterous relationships today? Some appeal to it to that end. Wayne
Jackson addresses this issue in this month’s Feature.
By Wayne Jackson | Christian Courier

(excerpt)

A Modern Abuse of this Case
As the Pharisees of Jesus’ day possessed a diabolical skill at twisting the Scriptures to justify their own evil desires, even so, some today are equally adept at textual manipulation. In an attempt to justify the notion that adulterers are not required to repent of their adultery (and hence to sever such relationships), the case of David and Bathsheba frequently is cited as precedent. It is argued that though David committed both adultery and murder, when he repented, Jehovah accepted him as he was — without requiring the king to abandon Bathsheha.

So today, it is contended, one may enter an adulterous union, repent, and not be required to dissolve the arrangement.

Christian Theology regarding "the Greater Good"

https://www.hanoverbaptistchur...ut-the-greater-good/

What does the Bible say about “the greater good?”
Jul 3rd, 2011 / Salt and Light

(excerpt)

There is a name for the philosophy of “the greater good.” It is called “Utilitarianism.” It is an “ethical doctrine that virtue is based on utility, and that conduct should be directed toward promoting the greatest happiness of the greatest number of people” (Random House College Dictionary). Peter Singer of Princeton is an example of a Utilitarian who sees it as applicable to man’s treatment of pre-born babies and animal “personhood.” At the occasion of Independence Day, Americans would do well to search out the original meaning of the phrase “the pursuit of happiness.”

What does the Bible say about the concept of the greater good? In the first place, our text completely obliterates the idea of situation ethics.

To all Americans, self-sacrifice for the good of the many is only a last resort when all other options are exhausted. Honor the fact that all men deserve considerations of dignity as bearers of the image of their Creator. To all believers in Christ, accept no high-sounding human rationale or stratagem as a substitute for the Greatest Good—the glory of the Lord God Almighty. Just as Christ, sacrifice your life and desires to only one value, the glory of God. Trust and obey.

===============================================

Situational ethics or situation ethics takes into account only the particular context of an act when evaluating it ethically, rather than judging it only according to absolute moral standards. With the intent to have a fair basis for judgments or action, one looks to personal ideals of what is appropriate to guide them, rather than an unchanging universal code of conduct, such as Biblical law under divine command theory.
Wikipedia

======================================================

Wikipedia:
In moral and political philosophy, the social contract is an idea, theory or model that usually, although not always, concerns the legitimacy of the authority of the state over the individual.[1] Conceptualized in the Age of Enlightenment, it is a core concept of constitutionalism , while not necessarily convened and written down in a constituent assembly and constitution.

Social contract arguments typically are that individuals have consented, either explicitly or tacitly, to surrender some of their freedoms and submit to the authority (of the ruler, or to the decision of a majority) in exchange for protection of their remaining rights or maintenance of the social order.[2][3]

================================
https://ethicsunwrapped.utexas...eing%20requires%20it.

per University of Texas:

(excerpt)

Social contract theory says that people live together in society in accordance with an agreement that establishes moral and political rules of behavior. Some people believe that if we live according to a social contract, we can live morally by our own choice and not because a divine being requires it.

Sure do love old guns, old folks, old dogs and more than a few other old things. Culture before the 1960's? I think we are better off today in most regards.
