ME,

There is NO justification. Quit thinking in those terms. Adultery is a sin. It is a bad thing.

The point I am trying to make is this: Many a flawed man has achieved greatness. The case of David is just an example…but one of magnitude.

That raises the questions -
Is Trump God-send?
Is God directing or even influencing him?
Is Trump part of God's Plan specifically pertaining to antichrist, etc., and so forth, per prophesy?

Of course, you already know my answers to those questions.

Also of course, I can predict your answers with some certainty.

So, pardon me if those questions are rhetorical. They are intended as thought provoking.

Also, there seems to be two definitions of Godsend. One means sent by God, or God ordained. Another is "a very helpful or valuable event, person, or thing". I might add "asset" for a cause; a means to achieve a justifiable and righteous end.

My questions above includes both definitions.

Why Is Texas the Epicenter of Christian Nationalism?
Billionaires here are funding right-wing politicians to knock down barriers between church and state. But a small countermovement is now rising to meet them.

By Bekah McNeel
March 6, 2024

(excerpt)

In the twilight of their majority, religious and political power brokers built a system that all but guarantees Texas will be the vanguard for laws that enforce a Christian nationalist agenda. Republican-drawn districts have ensured that primary races are more competitive than general election races, which creates an incentive to distinguish oneself—and attract some ideological-donor money—by being more right wing than one’s opponent. Session after session, the heavily Republican Legislature has passed bills making it harder to vote, especially in Democratic strongholds, for young voters and voters of color who are statistically more likely to vote for Democrats. The Texas Democratic Party hasn’t managed to put forward a winning program or candidate in a statewide race in nearly three decades, so winning the Republican primary is now tantamount to victory. And those low-turnout primaries are typically decided by the 3 percent of the population that sits farthest to the right.

What a rationalization! Do you tell yourself this at night, after saying your prayers?

Interesting that you have to go back to an Old Testament story to justify your support for an evil man. Was there nothing in the NT to help you? Nothing in the Gospels--you know, the sacred word of Jesus, the same Christ you purport to worship?

Jesus told the adulteress to repent and "go and sin no more." When did Trump ever repent? When did he ever go and sin no more?

You're right that great men are often flawed. What you're overlooking is that evil men are even more flawed. Trying to argue that someone is great by pointing to their flaws is not logical.

David’s sin cost him the child of that son. His other disobedience Brit the census almost had the kingdom ripped from him.

Had David not repented, the Kingdom would have been taken from him.

Jesus said the measure you judge you shall be judged. I have no issue holding President Trump to the measure I want applied to myself.

Also you hypocritical rant against what you perceive to be sexual immoral people while exuding President Trump his many corruptions. The least not being his failure to defend the Constitution from a violent mob bent on keeping him in power.

A good grovel about in the Old Testament will turn up a few lines justifying virtually anything you want.

Asking yourself “ what would Jesus do “ about a particular situation normally produces only one answer, the correct one, and likely an uncomfortable one for those who quote the OT.

Rule of thumb:

When an Old Testament prohibition is repeated in the New Testament, I consider such act a sin.

What is funny is when you get folks who explain away Old Testament restrictions such as what food not to eat. The response is usually God wanted that to show his people separate, and because of conditions at the time, that do not apply today, to eat those things was tangibly, measurably less safe.

Okay. I go with that. Then why can we not say the same about Gay Marriage whose prohibition is not repeated in the New Testament, and the conditions in whatever BC that made such a prohibition not arbitrary no longer exists?

There are many other unclean acts that we do not follow and do not concern ourselves with. A) These prohibitions are not repeated in the New Testament. B) Those restrictions have lost any reasonable application. Assuming God cannot lie, then good must be reasonable. A reasonable God cannot act arbitrary and capacious. Thus, if the tangible need for a restriction no longer applies, the restriction no longer applies.

Of course, abortion is mentioned no where in either Testament though the practice was developed and known.

I always circle back to this;

Wherein were all manner of fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air. And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat. But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean. And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common. This was done thrice: and the vessel was received up again into heaven.

The versus is not just talking about food choices. I would never condemn a person’s soul. That is for God to call clean. Others should be weary who they call unclean.

Trump's so called foreign policy of "America Alone" is enough reason for me not to vote for him. Romney made the case beautifully:

https://www.cnn.com/videos/pol...n-policy-src-vpx.cnn

But the complete lack of morals, attempts to steal the 2020 election and claims the other guy did it, the culture war etc. are adding to my choice to not support him.

Not that I love Biden but Trump and the direction he has taken the GOP are not something I can support.

I do not think any potential POTUS threatening to allow Russia to attack whoever the hell they want in NATO makes it stronger. Trump just does not deserve a seat at the big boy table, he has already shown us that, repeatedly.

Staying united with our allies is in our best interest, Romney explained that quite well.

True to form trump is talking typical Republican policy of reducing emissions controls. Is this how he plans to lower the cost of gasoline? Or maybe to increase the use of coal. Also he talks drill, drill, drill. Is that going to lower the cost of oil and hence gasoline? AFAIK we're still producing more oil than we consume.

A man's character is more important than his policies. What he says means nothing if his character is bad.

I would be willing to go hunting, fishing, or drinking with a person of good character who favored different policies than I do. You, for instance.

But I wouldn't want to be around a person of bad character, even if they said they agreed with me.

I am not so enamored with the tax policy. Yeah, I and our businesses did better. However, my half brother who is a school teacher got 2 dollar tax decrease. Big deal.

Policy I disagree with:

National Right to Life, National Abortion bans mirroring what we see in the Deep South;

Foreign Policy;

ATF use of regulatory power (I even agree the ATF might have such authority);

The NAFT reseal was weak;

Instructing House Republicans not to address the Border bi-partisan legislation thst can pass the Senate;

You and ME can debate whether Trump is a God-send or Antichrist. The sane don’t go down that road.

I go down that road exactly because it is insane, IMO. And it's where Lane is basically coming from.

It's the basis for practically ALL Christian Nationalism, IMO.

If you understand that, then the insanity is self-explanatory.

But I wouldn't want to be around a person of bad character, even if they said they agreed with me.

Further,...... Isn't quite a bit of our daily lives built on or depend on trust? The trust in someone's word or virtue?

In any of my jobs trust is the foundation. People trust me to safely transport them, trust me to provide a dry roof over their head, trust me to deliver an honest product.

We trust the groceries haven't been poisoned, we trust the rifles to be operable safely, we trust the ammo to go bang.

Once a person is known to be dishonest the trust is gone. They say, "this is a great cheeseburger!" Roll Eyes yeah right.

Trump isn't of good character, he's demonstrated that ad nauseum. I have no faith in trump to carry out any of the policies he claims to support.

Trust trumps faith and hope. Pun intended. Big Grin

Hebrews 11:1-6 NKJV
"Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen."

Trust is the substance of experience, things seen, facts and evidence.

80+% of what Trump did in his first was exactly what I wanted him to do. As far as I am concerned…his track record on policy is exemplary.

He was not strong on African Hunting and he could have been more fiscally conservative.

Otherwise he did well.

So I am not buying Scott’s argument. He has a good history of policy to run on.

I can’t think of one policy agreement I have with Biden.

After getting Laken’s name wrong, failing to reach out to her parents, and then apologizing for calling that animal an illegal…I will just say he is a horrible human being as well.

If one needs a monster to achieve so-deemed favorable policy, then it seems reasonable, at least to me, that re-evaluation may be appropriate; either the monster or the policies, most likely both.

IOW, there are no policies worthy if it takes a monster to achieve them.

What if it's not hype?

What if you are blind to it?

The issue/problem is that you can't fathom the thought.

OTOH, I can't think of him and his followers in a more benign way, given all the evidence.

What I'm trying to do is shock you into reality with carefully selected words.

If words and reality have no effect on you, then maybe others.

Calling it hype is just your defense, confronted with reality.

ME,
Exactly what am I evidence of?

I will say it again.

Monster…fascist…antichrist

Hyperbole of a nut. A nut with a good heart…but a nut nonetheless.

Mere words are insufficient when describing Trump, his character, his apologists, and supporters.

But I do the best I can. Wink
