I'm interested in issue 2) and Mike's post above. The linked poll does show that a majority of AL voters do not agree with Tuberville's position and worry it threatened national security. Maybe that's why the football coach caved.

If so…the system worked exactly as designed.

Which is the gist of my post.

When belief transforms into conviction. therein is the problem.

Senators. Like others, are to lead not follow the whims of the mob.

Sen. Tuberville has a responsibility to explain. If he loses the debate back home, so be it. The answer is not to engage in stupid childish actions that make the mob happy. I doubt the citizens of Alabama agree with his methods on the whole anyway.

The junior Football Coach did not engage the system. He abused it as his fellow Republicans on the Senate floor called him out for.

Conviction to represent the will of your constitutes? I submit it as the best example of conviction in an elected official.

You really think his constituents hate the military?

Well, no. 1, as the polling shows, it was not the will of his constituents. No. 2, if the will of your constituents is something that is as clearly wrong as this was, a true "man of conviction" would ignore it, do the right thing and follow the process and suffer the consequences in the next election.

The point is that Tuberville didn't get elected to thwart the promotions process in the US military.

It's difficult to believe you come on here and defend nonsense like this. trump has rotted republicans' brains to the point that just about anything goes, no matter how stupid it is.

Well, no. 1, as the polling shows, it was not the will of his constituents.

It was at first. They evolved towards the end.

No. 2, if the will of your constituents is something that is as clearly wrong as this was, Not wrong at all. a true "man of conviction" would ignore it, And the true term limit solution of voting would rid him from there representation…as it should. do the right thing and follow the process and suffer the consequences in the next election. I am happy he did what he did and am happy to support him.

The point is that Tuberville didn't get elected to thwart the promotions process in the US military.

He did get elected to stop taxpayer funded abortion. His people were with him…they just caved in the end. He conveyed there will each time.

It's difficult to believe you come on here and defend nonsense like this.

And you are a prime example of what is wrong with America and why the divide is so deep. I don’t want any “I know better than you what you need” politicians. trump has rotted republicans' brains to the point that just about anything goes, no matter how stupid it is.

You come on here almost everyday and prove even stupid people can make it as an attorney.

That’s rich. You regularly advocate for just such a result. You consistently demonstrate that you are not libertarian in your views despite your protestations to the contrary. The saving grace is that anyone who has been on this forum for any length of time recognizes that such statements by you are complete bullshit . . . to use a veterinary term of art.

I see that as a reason why his constituents evolved…their appreciation of the military. But early on…his constituents were behind him.

He relented when the will of his constituents asked him to. That is doing a good job as a representative…if you ask me.

Suppose you cite an example of me advocating “for just such a result.” (Hint: I already know what you are going to say. Wink)

The state knowing what prayer and God we pray to.

The state knowing what consenting adult we marry or have sex with.

The state knowing better rape victims, and those who have medical risk pregnancies giving birth.

The state knowing how to treat gender dysphoria over medicine and child’s parents.

Just a few.

That is not me. I was for allowing the union. I objected to using the word marriage except between a man & woman…like thousands of years of precedent set. The sex thing…don’t know what you are talking about.

The state knowing better rape victims, and those who have medical risk pregnancies giving birth.

The child deserves a voice. It is heathen to think otherwise.

There is no proof “gender dysphoria” exists. I certainly want rational people advocating for children before they are even old enough to understand.

Just a few.

This thread should be preserved somewhere for the devotion to one's sense of divine rightness.

If Lane says or believes it then it must be right and should be imposed on everybody.

Ive never once thought Doc was forcing or imposing anything on me and we disagree quite a bit.

How fragile, tender and sensitive do our friends here have to be to feel like they're bullied on the PF?

I don't think Doc makes a habit of using foul or aggressive language, name calls, nor have I seen him once dedicate a topic to another member as the butt sniffers have repeatedly done on the pf with him.

I am under the impression Doc believes very strongly in his opinions and feels totally self assured in his viewpoint. I think that's okey dokey.

Doc and I disagree about the death penalty and Trump, some foreign policy, the weather, possibly that Tuberville fellow, probably Bides impeachment, etc,.... yet he and I seem to be able to converse here just fine and no, Doc and I have no contact outside AR and what's said publicly.

Do I have some kind of hang up or is it you guys?

On another note, Merry Christmas to all here. I wish you all peace! Emphasis on Peace! Goodwill to all of you. I know it's a battle outside all our front doors, but I hope once all of you are inside your front door it's peace and happiness. A pleasure to be home. Big Grin

Goodness , that doesn't mean you shouldn't name call and insult me, I'm a big boy and fine with it. rotflmo rotflmo
