I believe you've hit on it. Trump is both a fool and a narcissist.
For one thing, for example, Trump just wants to be able to claim he ended the Russian/Ukrainian war, brought peace, and thus might get the Peace Prize and be featured on Times as man of the year. That's what matters to him. So, he intentionally does stuff to weaken Ukraine and thus put Putin in a better position. It's just easier that way, for a perceived quick solution, and Putin has better "cards". It doesn't matter to Trump if he ruins the US/allies longstanding relationships. He will just bully his way back in if it suits him. He doesn't care about Putin's long-term ambitions. Kick that can down the road.
I've already said, often, that IMO Trump is not just a narcissist, but much worse. He's a Dark Triad sadist.
If he's a fool, he's a useful fool.
He's the right man, plus Musk, for the job of fulfilling Heritage Foundation's project 2025 and much more.

and, dang gummit, had to swap out my phone, as the grandson dropped mine and shattered the screen.
waiting for a couple parts to come in to do a couple more small repairs -- might tackle my little generator, the gas one, and power washer my wife bought, both need carb rebuilds

AND my local gas station just started stocking ethanol free fuel, so now it's a rotation to get ethanol free fuel into the "Sometimes" used toys (atv, little generator, power washer, etc) --
the real generator, a kubota diesel 13kw, runs on diesel and is easy to feed and care for ...
not to mention yesterday i mounted my LAST NOS niken monarch on my SFAR, and will go shoot in a day or so -

In one sense, Trump is doing us a huge favor. He is exposing the wet dreams of the extremist right to light and air, the best disinfectant. Some ideas will work, others will fall by the wayside. Intellectual evolution at work.
Parts of the Libertarian agenda may be carried along on its coattails, a test drive that may not have occurred without Trump unknowingly helping out. I think the Tea Party was to some degree a Republican effort to cadge an extra couple of percents in close elections, but rebranded a few ideas that would have been hard to prototype on just the Libertarian vote.
Bottom line, political philosophy's purpose is to serve the needs of the populace, not the other way around. This will be the acid test.
