The same selection process that saw a post turtle put there in the first place.
Very similar too our Labour Party that elected a fish and chip shop worker to prime minister.

It’s democracy … anybody can be leader…
That’s why I like US election ..l simple nationwide election with all 50 states having vested interest
All the parliamentary elections with multiple parties are ripe for who gets you what kinda stuff

Never been lost, just confused here and there for month or two

You are kidding right?

You saying that after the election you just had with 3 of the poorest candidates in memory?

At least the US voter got to decide which person is our chief executive, rather than voting for a local parliamentarian and that vote being leveraged into the party picking their executive.

I feel that whichever party had put a more reasonable candidate forward would have had a landslide here.

I admit that my view isn’t wholly agreed with by all republicans- some feel Trump gave them a landslide- but that is my contention.

I hope Trump learned from his loss to Biden and how things turned out.

I suspect not, and suspect the GOP is going to be held accountable for the economic downturn that is going to come out with Biden’s profligate spending coming due.

Kind of, and kind of not. We go into an election cycle knowing who will be the leader and CEO, and in that regard there is an element of selection on that persons popularity. But also we get to vote for individuals too fill parliament and the leader can be changed if they loose the confidence of those other elected individuals in the ruling party or coalition, mid election term.
So what eventuates is that if a leader, Like jacana Ardern, suddenly becomes persona non Grata too the general public outside of an election, then the party weighs up the cost of keeping them in power, and can and does often remove them.
