We just got word that UPS is marking many parcels going into the U.S. as “For Destruction”. My wife has a hobby internet business selling specialty crafting supplies, and lately she’s had a high percentage of ‘never arrived’ stuff going on.

Apparently since the ‘de minimus’ basis line was eliminated they’re simply too swamped with paperwork to process them all. Have you guys heard anything?

An incompetent private company and a lazy government bureaucracy is never a good combination.

An incompetent trade policy sure as hell doesn't help.

I guess for now she’ll just stop selling/shipping to the U.S. when it turns out she’s been offering refunds for stuff the UPS destroys.

Steve, it is ALWAYS someone else's fault, you should know that by now. It is UPS's fault. It is the bureaucracy's fault. It is the weather's fault. It is Big Pharm's fault. It is Canada's fault. It is God's fault. But you can rest assured it will never the fault of the Orange Messiah and his harebrained policies.

Recently I ordered something rather expensive to me on Amazon.

Turns out the product is made in Canada.

Then I got a call from the mfg and seller.

He told me I could save $100 by ordering it direct.

I never had that happen before.

Anyway, we talked and he explained and seemed legit. He said going through Amazon required some import/export hassle.

I don't know the details, but I ordered and paid directly, and cancelled the Amazon order.

The item arrived timely, no problems, and I did save $100.
