Of course the Left wants change.

Trump especially and Trumpism in general thrives off drama.

If there isn't conflict, they feel lost.

Fighting fire with fire is what they expect.

It would be a strategic mistake. The best is to speak the truth, and speak out, and let them fuck themselves.

100% correct..

the key is to speak TRUTH... 100% truth.. not the MSNBC/CNN/BBC/CBC version of truth... but ALL of the truth..

Take ownership for your part, and take corrective action.. then make it clear that the other side isn't taking ownership for their part or taking any corrective action...

Speaking 1/2 truths, grumbling, complaining, and continuing to focus on "he's a bad guy!" is a losing proposition.. its exactly why we are where we are right now (whether someone likes where we are, or hates it)...

"He's a bad guy" is a big TRUTH, so why not say it loud?

I'm not going to start shunning sources for info such as the MSM you named. And I'm not going to corroborate anything re truth on Fox News. IMO, that's taking ownership on my part. Just because I block out Fox from my truth meter certainly doesn't mean I'm dealing in half truths. Fox is a known and proven liar, so that truth/fact is taken into account.

The other side isn't taking ownership or corrective action, and I can't do much about that except to call it out.

To be clear, exactly why we are where we are right now is because so many people believe in fiction. It's worse than just not being able to sort out truth. It's that they choose to fill the void with lies, Trump's lies in particular, and their own ideological lies. It's a choice. That's why facts don't matter. Truth and facts could be (and actually is) right in their face 24/7 and they would still choose alt-facts and alt-truth and alt-reality.

Practically every day I encounter the same or similar version of the defense for belief in lies. The vast majority of Trumpsters at least have recognized that something is way off-center (for lack of a better and non offensive term) with Trump(ism). But, the standard rationale is he is trying to make the country better (again for lack of a better word). It's pitiful, really.

Who said Fox was reliable?

Your ASSumptions clearly make you a victim of the colloquial phrase related to ASSumptions...

What is being talked about here is the LEFT continuing down the same path that has gotten the LEFT to where it is today (in a losing position)..

If you want to win, you should WANT the right to continue to rely on the media and its politicians for biased information and only the facts that support their agendas.. that leaves them in a position of weakness..

The fact that the left continues to double down on half truths and "bad man" drivel that continues to be spouted by its media sources and its policians.. (to include EU, Canadian, etc as well as American).. rather than acknowledging ALL of the truths.. is why in the US the D party is at a 30 year low in approval ratings, that Trump is now the US president, and very visible and vocal geopolitical figures that are D's are scrambling and practically begging to the practice to end..

But keep on keeping on if you like.. we'll see where that gets the left at the mid terms.. we'll see where that gets the left in the current tariff negotiations.. we'll see where that gets the left in the current NATO negotiations..

FWIW, if you haven't figured it out yet.. I am far from a Trump/MAGA guy.. Im also far from a leftist.. I am very much a centrist.. damn near independent.. If I look at my own ideologies and compare them to the political parties in the US, I am more libertarian than anything else.. the problem with the Libertarian party is they haven't been able to find a candidate at the national level since the party inception that isn't a lunatic or a driveling idiot that is solely focused on legalization of weed and doesn't know about (or care about) much else.. So I typically don't vote libertarian (certainly never have at the national level)..

The benefit of being more of a centrist than anything else is, I frankly don't trust any media source.. I find Fox to be just as full of BS and half truths and agenda driven commentary as MSNBC.. I find Bernie Sanders to be just as much of a lying, self serving turd as I find Matt Gaetz to be a lying, self serving turd..

So I look at all sides.. and typically find the "truth" somewhere in between where the two primary sides tell you it is...

Which leads us back to the OP..

What the media on the left is telling you is a half truth..

and what the media on the right is telling you is a half truth...

Sure Trump is a dick.. no one questions that.. to include Trump loyalists..

No doubt Trump purposefully says bombastic crap that no one wants to hear, and that most would say doesn't belong in global politics..

But.. there is also no doubt that the Danes have very openly admitted that they have neglected their obligations and have done a poor job as it relates to Greenland and the defense of the artic circle... and that they have not met their NATO obligation as it related to the artic circle (whether it benefits the US or not.. they did make a NATO commitment).. this comes from their own military and their own political leaders...

The Danes openly admit that they have been asked multiple times over a period of decades to correct this.. and they have not done it.. again, this comes straight from their senior military officials and their own political leaders..

So Vance, repeats what the Danes have already admitted to.. he might use words that people object to.. but he isn't accusing them of anything that they haven't already admitted they have done..

Both sides are clearly "wrong"...

Only focusing on Trump is a dick gets you nowhere..

It might be fun to dance around and clap gleefully every time Trump (or Vance) give you a another chance to point that out...

But they very obviously couldn't care less.. you're actually giving them EXACTLY what they want (Magine Enigam acknowledges this in a prior post)..

and the problem doesn't get fixed as a result...

Other than it empowers Trump/MAGA.. and encourages them to continue down the path that they are on...

which Trump/MAGA believes is a winning path (evidenced by extremely low opposition approval, and by Canada, Mexico, the EU, etc.. already making concessions to all of the threats)..

We completely agree on this...

The problem is BOTH SIDES have a large volume of people that buy into the lies told by their side..

Well, I'll agree with what I think you are getting at.

It's not about Left vs Right. It's about Truth vs Fiction. There is some of each, left and right.

Discussion and negotiating over policies and values becomes of little meaning when one side is predominately operating within the belief in fiction, and practically every policy and value stems from that. It's circular, self-perpetuating like cause and effect and then effect and cause.

Said another way - I don't buy the reality emanating for the country, and world, out of the head of a Dark Triad character/leader.

I think we're finally communicating and not talking past one another..

I completely agree.. the battle isn't left vs right..

The US has proven the left and right do have the ability to come together and work towards common goals when necessary (post 9/11, WW2, etc)..

The problem (as I see it) is truth vs fiction.. and ideologies driven by beliefs not founded in truths..

Between the media, politicians (although they have historically always been liars), and now social media.. lies spread faster than ever..

And people are lazier than they historically ever been in the past.. they are perfectly happy to believe anything they read in a twitter post or heard spouted by Racheal Maddow or Tucker Carlson just because it was said.. and look no further or consider any other opinion on the matter..

Mentioning those two in the same sentence in the same context is something I disagree with.

It irks me greatly that Rightists think or used to think Carlson spoke or had any clue as to Truth, yet thought Maddow is/was a hack. It irks me further that some people, supposedly trying to be balanced, put the two on the same plane.

Here's an example where Maddow talks about an actual quote, and interprets it correctly, no twist, no spin.

I hear the BOTH SIDES argument, and consider it.

I really don't agree with that notion and think it's a false equivalence in the context of this discussion.

I also don't buy into Trump's active lawfare and his projection of it.

I'll give a couple of examples and invite you or anyone to explain to me how this reporting is not truthful, directly, indirectly or by omission.

Why?? Water...and other natural resources...lumber, mining, not to mention controlling a huge chunk of the Arctic. Of special interest will be rare earth minerals and uranium, in addition to all of the obvious ones, oil and gas, gold, silver, copper, iron, diamonds, etc, etc. It would be a case of rape and pillage.

for the rest depite being a so called centrist you are really hardcore defending your country and their actual positions ... i was not interested in your country politics up to the time your president talked about annexion and tariffs war which will not end well for either of our countries but thinking because you are big you wont feel it is wrong but time will tell. as if we remove the oil and natural gas we re importing more from you than you are importing from us so simple economic calculation is your enterprises shipping to us will be hurt ...
you shold question yourself if your president doesnt need canada why he is willing to annex us or tariffs while he was the one negociating the actual deals between canada usa and mexico ...?

Why?? Water...and other natural resources...lumber, mining, not to mention controlling a huge chunk of the Arctic. Of special interest will be rare earth minerals and uranium, in addition to all of the obvious ones, oil and gas, gold, silver, copper, iron, diamonds, etc, etc. It would be a case of rape and pillage.

ah Kelly so true but seems the us citizen are not willing to admit ... in the same token they are not interested in the people just the land something to always remember ...

Just saying that if you had used the word 'some' us citizen(s) and 'some' are not interested, that would perhaps be more accurate. Perhaps English is not your first language. Anyway, you imply 'all'. That's not true.

Yes, you can. "They" can also be used as singular, where the sex is unspecified or unknown. Example:

"Everyone should brush their hair."

in that specific case you are right english is not my first language but my fourth but i disagree on the utilisation of only some ... a majority of voters not some elected your president and in the same token the silent majority is still happy and they are still thinking canada was robbing usa and they need to be punished without even thinking of the consequences to them ...

Four languages. I'm very impressed.

I only know two - English okay, and southern redneck well. Wink

I disagree with the rest of your claim, specifically the "majority of voters" and the "silent majority is still happy" and "they are still thinking Canada was robbing usa" and "they need to be punished". I don't believe any of that is true. I know for sure those are not my sentiments at all and I'm sure many others share my view.

If I could, I would prove it to you. But it's like proving a negative. There's no evidence to support your claim, so evidence is lacking to disprove it as well.

Just because Trump was elected isn't proof or evidence for your claims. As I recall, his BS about Canada started after he was elected.

I think you are jumping to emotional presumptions from circumstances that are not supportive.

i do not have to claim: who got the most great/grand electors number to get the high seat in washington dc? my demonstration is simple and the truth is hurting i get that but trump has been elected and he has a majority in the 2 chambers? correct me if im wrong ... it is the majority of votes that get him in not the registered ones that did not show up as we have the same problem in most of democratic countries including canada.

nothing to do with my emotions ...

now the trump supporters are supporting the tariff wars and even the annexion of canada/ 51st state and greenland with not a problem and as trump got a majority and he is elected, prove me that im wrong in my statement. the medias are supporting those claims made by trump and the trumps ...

the same with trump claiming he prefers to deal with a liberal as the representant of canada ...

i find it interesting that even here some (not you) that are claiming they did not vote for trump are still supporting of the agressive way of doing diplomatic and business with the previous allies of your country and have not a problem with being best friend with putin the enemy of the rest of the western world (again not you) and have no problem to restart a protectionism and isolationism never seen since the end of 20s beginning of 30s ...

Well, so far what has Trump accomplished regarding Canada besides pissing a lot of people like you off and making you paranoid and getting a liberal elected and stirring Canadians to show their solidarity?

All I'm suggesting is that you recognize that many of us see Trump's BS and want to put an end to it asap, using the tools bequest to us by our Founders.

the outcome is that the candidate of the republican party got elected thus he got the majority of the electors for each state that makes him and his party the new president and in the same token the majority in your 2 chambers.

we can use all the semantic we want or wish but the outcome happened because of the voters that went not the ones that should ....

This Country is in trouble because we no longer have a shared reality on which we have differing opinions, our "reality" has been Balkanized since the end of the Fairness Doctrine. Fox News and their imitators and right-wing talk radio have convinced the dumbest third of our population that all other information sources are conspiring to mislead the dumbest third and make them gay or something, primarily by reinforcing their ingrained racism, sexism, homophobia and abject ignorance. The "Culture War" these entertainment companies have profited hugely by fanning, and Republican politicians with no morals or ideas have ridden to power, is not a war between opposing cultures, it's a war between the inclusive culture that welcomes the best from every part of society, functioning in every Western Country but the U.S., and a lack of culture that is touted as being virtuous because there's no culture involved. There is no more emblematic example available, or needed, than the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, which ranked alongside the Smithsonian Institutions as the signature of American culture until its Trumpification, which may well be its final act. Alongside Carnegie Hall as a venue for the most talented performing artists it has very quickly devolved into an upscale strip club that no self-respecting act wants any part of.

Replacing Walter Cronkite with Tucker Carlson was not a good move.

I understand why people in other countries would look at it that way.

For myself, I find some solace in the belief that a majority of Americans don't support what Trump is doing. That and anger at the Trump voters keep me paying attention to politics. Otherwise, I'd hide from the news.

Good post, Jeffive.

The Ukraine ‘peace deal’ is proving a scam
Story by Owen Matthews • 20h • 3 min read

Excerpt:

After Donald Trump spoke to Vladimir Putin earlier this month, the White House claimed that “a future with an improved bilateral relationship between the United States and Russia has huge upside” and spoke of “enormous economic deals and geopolitical stability when peace has been achieved”.

For one, the White House’s breathless – some might say witless – optimism at the beginning of the talks has evaporated. The tone of the readout of this week’s talks in Riyadh was bone-dry: “The United States and Russia will continue working toward achieving a durable and lasting peace.”

NJ Prosecutor Alina Habba Clashes with Judge Over Trump’s Bribery Regulation Block
Story by Ruta Kulkarni • 23h • 4 min read

Excerpt:

These cases fall under a law called the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, or FCPA for short. It’s a rule that stops American businesses from bribing officials in other countries. But Trump’s new order has thrown a curveball into how these cases are handled, and not everyone agrees on what to do next.

A Judge Stands Firm
The judge in this situation is based in Newark, New Jersey. He’s not budging on his decision. When the previous prosecutor asked for that six-month delay, the judge pointed to an earlier promise from someone in the government.

That person said, just days after Trump’s order, that the case would still go to trial. The judge took that seriously. He thinks the government already had enough time—about 10 or 11 days—to decide the case should move forward. So, he’s not giving them half a year more to think about it.

Instead, the judge laid out two clear choices: start the trial by April 7 or ask to drop the case. No in-between, no extra waiting. This puts Habba in a tough spot. She’s new to the job, and now she’s got a judge pushing her to act fast. The judge’s ruling makes it clear he’s not here for delays, even with Trump’s order in play. It’s like he’s saying, “Pick a lane, and let’s get moving.”

This isn’t just about one case, though. It’s part of a bigger tug-of-war. Trump and his team have been frustrated with judges who don’t go along with his plans. In other places, like Washington, D.C., he’s even called for a judge to be removed for blocking deportations. He’s made it no secret he thinks some courts are overstepping. At a recent event, he said, “The courts want to pretend they’re president, and they’re not president.” That’s the kind of heat Habba’s walking into.

The Bribery Case and Trump’s Big Move
Let’s break down the case at the heart of this. Back in 2019, two executives from a tech company in Teaneck, New Jersey, got into hot water. They allegedly okayed $3.6 million in bribes to an Indian official. The goal? To get permission to build a huge office complex in a city called Chennai. The company itself already paid $25 million to settle a related complaint a few years ago. But the two men still face criminal charges, and that’s where things stand now.

AOC & Bernie Sanders Rally Against Oligarchy

Trump’s order, signed last month, shakes things up. He doesn’t like the FCPA. He says it scares businesses away from making deals overseas. “Nobody wants to do business because they don’t want to feel like every time they pick up a phone, they’re going to jail,” he said when he signed it.

His order tells the Justice Department to freeze all new FCPA investigations for at least 180 days—about six months. It also says they need to look hard at existing cases, like this one in New Jersey, and decide what to do.

The order goes even further. It suggests the Attorney General—Trump’s pick, Pam Bondi—could stretch that pause another six months if needed. Trump’s point is clear: he wants less of what he calls a “horror show” for American companies.

He believes the law, while it sounds nice, hurts the country more than it helps. Habba, who used to be Trump’s defense lawyer and adviser, now has to carry out this vision in New Jersey. But with the judge pushing back, it’s not so simple.

Replacing Walter Cronkite with Tucker Carlson was not a good move.

i have to contradict your wording on balkanized ... the collapse of balkans happened after the death of tito and collapse of the berlin wall and cccp ... tito was a dictator, a communist one like ceaucescu and some others around that part of the world. your country has not suffered yet enough to get that wording but you are right it is coming ...

correct me if im wrong ... it is the majority of votes that get him in

That's wrong. Trump got a plurality, not a majority.

More voters voted for other candidates than voted for him.

And many more eligible voters apparently did not feel that the choices were worth their time...

the outcome is that the candidate of the republican party got elected thus he got the majority of the electors for each state that makes him and his party the new president and in the same token the majority in your 2 chambers.

we can use all the semantic we want or wish but the outcome happened because of the voters that went not the ones that should ....

I understand why people in other countries would look at it that way.

For myself, I find some solace in the belief that a majority of Americans don't support what Trump is doing. That and anger at the Trump voters keep me paying attention to politics. Otherwise, I'd hide from the news.

Good post, Jeffive.

i do agree you will need some beliefs but i will say you will need some candles burnt in church as well ... but i have hope as well but it will be a longer run before your fellow citizen start to really see the light. as we can see here some are still trumps without even thinking ...
