9 days when Congress comes back to work to prevent a shutdown.

House GOP too busy stroking to a not really impeachment play.

A threat of shutdown by the Fool wing of the party cause our credit to be down graded. That cost is all money.

I agree that congress isn’t paying attention to its duties.

I think part of the reason that the GOP is doing what it is is over the supposition that this kind of behavior successfully changed the result of the previous presidential election. Similarly, the democrats were duty be damned, we need to win the next election! We have to “save the country”!

So the GOP is doing its usual sorta-kinda copy the democrat playbook in hopes it will win.

I honestly don’t expect to have a government shutdown that really has an impact… but the drama and BS it causes (and as you point out, the cost) makes this a reason to change our politicians.

Remember that it takes more than one to argue. The Dems could capitulate and solve this too. Not likely, but given polarization this is, unfortunately, an expectation or reality.

You lost the election because trump is an asshole, not because of anything the Dems did. trump would have been the only GOP candidate that Biden could have beaten. Same as in upcoming 2024. Put the blame where it belongs. On the republicans.

The “shutdown”, should there be one, is always non-essential services. The complacent media will play it up as the end of the world and then your Demonrat heroes will paint themselves as saviors for rescuing the country. What a laugh. And completely true.

Tell that to our credit rating and folks waiting on Social Security Checks.

Again, if we have a shutdown. The House GOP will take the heat they deserve. That 5 vote majority will disappear at the election box. So, govern like Sen Tuberville and lose the House.

Shit it down, and make the Dems job easier to take majority. McCarty won’t have to word off about the Freedom/MAGA nuts vacating his Speakership. He will be in the minority.

Shutdown won't affect Social Security, comes from separate funds.

I remember, in 1970, under President Richard Nixon (by the way, if you want to see what a landslide looks like, look at the map for Nixon's elections), an austerity measure was passed wherein federal employees were to be bumped back one pay grade. I was working in a shop full of government employees and felt a little sympathetic. Not a whole bunch, mind you, since I only earned 147.00 a month as a PFC. Anyway, the union workers, who did damn little at the best of times, did even less, since most of their time was spent bitching about the injustice of it all. I listened to the complaints, and the situation became clear to me.
According to their union contract, no reduction in grade could take effect for one year. Further, the agreement also stated that the employee must be restored to his previous pay grade within one year of the announcement of the reduction! No shit! The whole thing was window dressing; net zero! About the same time, I got promoted and, including my dependent's allotment, started dragging in 198.00 a month (woo hoo!). I made about the same amount at my part time job at a tire shop, so I was in high cotton! Regards, Bill
