They are either controlled from the ground (what frequencies and where are the transmitters) or autonomous (an entirely different kettle of fish with a different cast of characters). If they are looking for gammas, the cost of CZT detectors and associated electronics further reduces the number of potential authors.

A lot of finger pointing and hand waving. They are large and fly during the night to earlier morning. I have seen one once flying over my house and two at my place of work.

I'm waiting for one to fly low enough that someone can shoot it down. I do find it curious that there appears to be no rotary winged equipment left over from our drug wars to find one of these and just park behind it until it runs out of battery. The "turning off the lights" isn't a valid excuse as most everyone has seen FLIR footage of drug smugglers being followed when they turn off nav lights.

Down the road from us, at March AFB, is a building full of screens. Most of what's in the air flying is on one of those screens. I have not seen data on the level of detail. There are at least two of these monitors that are publicly known.

This is the sort of thing that's ripe for conspiracy theory within an already ripe culture for that. Trust in the "government" is way down. So, the notion that "they" are lying to us or withholding info is understandable. That notion happened a lot already on different issues, different scale.

The second worse scenario, or assumption that I can think of is that the "government" is withholding info to avoid mass panic and to give them time to figure out if something can be done to make it go away or otherwise resolve. But if it does just go away, we will be looking at the sky for a long time.

The first worse scenario or assumption is that it's some sort of mass psychosis and not real. I say first worse because I don't know if that can be cured or resolved. What's the govt to do, declare that half the population is vulnerable to mass psychosis, dream up shit, believe in fiction? That surly ain't gonna happen in the Trumpism era by Govt. or self-reflection. It could happen by psychological projection, fomented or grass root or both. One psychosis leading to another and another.

The psychos declaring realists a threat? It could happen.

Oh wait - it's already happening.

I said 2nd and 1st worse scenario, but thinking about it - both could happen at the same time. They are not exclusive of each other, in existence or effect.

Yes. Just came on here to add the 3rd option of mass hysteria. It's possible there is not a significant extra number of flights happening, and add in mistaken identification of aircraft etc, and a bit of media buzz. Plus a bit of ill intent fake social media posts and it could easily happen.
