Interesting if you're not American. I saw another headline just now that said a top analyst or somebody like that was predicting a Trump win. Wasn't important enough for me to get details.

What bothers me and I'd guess the foreigners find interesting is that we are here.

Historically we and the world used to respect and look up to our fighting men and those who have served our country. Eisenhower, JFK and Washington are on our money. Arlington cemetery is dedicated to respecting our military, there's the memorials like the Vietnam war memorial, the Washington memorial, holidays like Veterans day and Memorial day. War movies are some of our favorite entertainment, many of us here like the idea of owning a Garand and everyone knows what the Medal of Honor is for, what it takes to receive it and that the recipient is commonly dead when they do. Seems like that's gone. Miley, Kelly and Mattis are disrespected and dismissed. What our veterans fought for for years in Europe, for a decade in south east Asia and for decades in the M.E.is said to be of no value.

At the same time, some of us advocate division. "Our fellow Americans are the worst enemy". Trump calls for the suspension of the Constitution, military tribunals for his political opponents and the suppression of the Press and a significant percentage of United States citizens say, "yep". It's a guarantee that Trump won't reach across the aisle for any reason and therefore his tenure is certainly doomed to fail and his constituents cheer.

On the other hand, the opposition runs out Biden and Harris. Confused

If Trump is so terrible why in the world is the contest so close?

If Biden/Harris is so terrible why in the world is the contest so close?

I've been looking at retirement options in Argentina and Chile.

Either that or a solid Republican who is disgusted by Trump and his behavior. Maybe Scott happens to be smart enough to have not drunk the Kool-Aid.

It bewilders me too that the contest is close.

It seems to be a make it happen or break it mindset. It's clearly ideology over country. They claim love of country, patriotism, etc., but what does that look like based on actions, such as invading the Capitol, calling criminals political hostages, SCOTUS granting the AH some immunity, actively supporting lies and liars, and supporting Trump?

GOPer members of congress are contributing explicitly to the division. And Fox is a huge lever. I believe that if Fox News was an honest broker instead of a propaganda machine for the Far-Right, there is no way this contest would be close. But of course, they prove beyond doubt that affirmation is money.

So far mostly what we've seen amounts to shaking the bushes to see what flushes out.

Some say Trump is "owning liberals". I say he's owing the far right. Everyone else is rejecting him and his trajectory.

Trump's denial (lie) about project 2025 seems to have worked as far as it can, but it's a mistake to think he won't implement the fascist plan ASAP.

This is just an example:

It would not be close if it was only the far right supporting trump.
Not sure why people here wont see that.
There are independents, moderates of both parties and even usual Dem voters going for trump, or it would be 65%-35% harris.

It’s close because both sides are trying to hold the country hostage to their fringe ideology.

The right is pointing at the stupidities of the left and asking the rest of us if we want that. The left is pointing at the failures of the right and telling us we don’t want that.

Where is the box on the ballot that says neither is acceptable?

Trump vows to go after his enemies if elected. Meet two enforcers ready to carry that out
Story by Josh Meyer, USA TODAY • 1h • 7 min read

That's Michael Flynn, a retired Army lieutenant general and Trump's first White House national security advisor. He's also a former convicted felon who was banished from what he calls the "Deep State" national security bureaucracy after rising to become head of the Pentagon's Defense Intelligence Agency.

At Flynn's side is his longtime aide Ivan Raiklin, an intense former Green Beret, retired Army Reserve lieutenant colonel and former DIA employee who's also a conservative lawyer.

Well, maybe. I like warmth sure, but Chile has some good fishing and hunting as well as a very stable government.

Argentina seems a little nutty, but has some outstanding hunting. I'd be happy to spend my final years with bird dogs and fly rods. I still have a hard time wrapping my head around living in a place that has bird dog eating reptiles and not shooting everyone you see regardless time of day, location, size, etc,,,,,,.

The kid has to come along of course.

Years ago, after WW2, the whole world respaced America and looked up to it.

Then the Vietnam war came.

Created by America.

Killed and destroyed the livelyhood of millions.

Just to fill the coffers of the military industry, who owned the politicians.

They had the CIA kill Kennedy so Johnson could be installed to run the war.

Has any of you ever wondered WHY the real reason and who actually killed Kennedy still a secret?

Every little Dick Head installed in the White House seals it again.

Anand again!

Since then America has taken a nose dive in the eyes of the world.

And the current situation of who you will pick to rule you is a perfect result of that silly past!

I see two ways to destroy the GOP.

One is to elect Trump. The other is to not elect him.

The first option will take the country down with him as collateral damage.

The second will at least give us a chance to dodge the worst damage. The Far Right won't be fading soon, but at least they may crawl back under their rocks and thus vacate space for real conservatives to form an effective party.

I think the term CINA party (Conservative in Name Actually) is good.

‘This is who Donald Trump is’: Ex-Trump administration officials sign open letter backing John Kelly’s claims
Story by Rhian Lubin • 1h • 3 min read

A group of former Trump administration officials has penned an open letter backing his former chief of staff John Kelly, after he warned that the former president meets the definition of “a fascist.”

“The revelations General Kelly brought forward are disturbing and shocking. But because we know Trump and have worked for and alongside him, we were sadly not surprised by what General Kelly had to say,” the letter, first published by POLITICO, states.

“We applaud General Kelly for highlighting in stark details the danger of a second Trump term. Like General Kelly, we did not take the decision to come forward lightly. We are all lifelong Republicans who served our country,” the letter reads.

“However, there are moments in history where it becomes necessary to put country over party. This is one of those moments. Everyone should heed General Kelly’s warning.”

Tucker Carlson frames Trump as America's abusive dad in disturbing speech
Story by Ja'han Jones • 19h • 3 min read

In a disturbing speech opening up for Donald Trump at a campaign stop in Duluth, Georgia, on Wednesday, Tucker Carlson compared the United States to a “bad little girl” deserving of physical abuse from her father.

Carlson spoke at an event hosted by Turning Point Action, the political arm of right-wing activist Charlie Kirk’s Turning Point USA, a pro-Trump organization focused on young voters. In his remarks, he used a good amount of time creepily dramatizing a story of what sounds like domestic violence and giving it a positive spin, drawing raucous applause from the crowd.

Carlson, who’s scheduled to headline an event with Trump in Arizona on Halloween, told the crowd in Georgia:

"There has to be a point at which Dad comes home. Yeah, that’s right. Dad comes home. And he’s pissed. Dad is pissed. He’s not vengeful. He loves his children. Disobedient as they may be, he loves them because they’re his children. They live in his house. But he’s very disappointed in their behavior and he’s going to have to let them know."

He continued:

'Get to your room right now and think about what you did!' And when Dad gets home, you know what he says? “You’ve been a bad girl. You’ve been a bad little girl and you’re getting a vigorous spanking right now. And no, it’s not going to hurt me more than it hurts you. No, it’s not. I’m not going to lie. This is going to hurt you a lot more than it hurts me. And you earned this. You’re getting a vigorous spanking because you’ve been a bad girl.'

The former Fox News host closed his speech by encouraging attendees to deny Vice President Kamala Harris’ victory if she’s named the winner: “When they tell you they’ve won, no! You can look them straight in the face and say, ‘I’m sorry. Dad’s home. And he’s pissed.’”

And when Trump walked out, attendees eerily called him “Daddy Don” and hollered “Daddy’s home.”

Carlson’s outrageous speech — in which he described children ranging from 2 years old to 15 years old needing to be punished — prompted swift backlash online for mirroring abuser talk. I’ve been writing a lot lately about the MAGA movement’s reliance on toxic masculinity. But few examples embody that crisis quite like this one.

It’s more than a little odd that Carlson has this dramatized dialogue between an abusive father and a child so readily available in his mind. A family therapist would have a field day with that.

If you’ve been reading this blog, you know this is part of a pattern. Earlier this year, Carlson claimed America was in need of more fathers willing to beat up employees at their children’s schools, so he seems to idolize violent father figures. Or, perhaps, just violent men in general.

As eerie as it sounded to me, I listened to this speech and thought to myself how horrifying it must’ve been for actual victims of domestic violence to hear this crowd of thousands cheering a made-up story of an angry father returning home to use violence against his family. I imagine there are many people — women and men — who know the experience of having an abusive husband or father and bristled at it being portrayed positively.

But this is what it looks and sounds like when a political movement is priming you for fascism. The United States is not Trump’s “house,” and the American people are not his “bad little girls,” destined to live under his violent dominion.

Listening to his most fervent followers, though, it’s clear that’s the vision they have for the nation: one in which Trump is America’s “Daddy” — a self-proclaimed protector who abuses the people he claims to protect.

Here's another article featuring Turning Point USA .

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news...b953d218a92ee29&ei=9

Trump’s evangelical farce has come to an end

(excerpt)

Donald Trump’s “Believers and Ballots Faith Town Hall” in Zebulon, Georgia, on Wednesday was very short on words about believers, ballots or faith.

Asked to “share a final message to those Christians to encourage them to go to the polls,” Trump could not even bring himself to offer such a message. He did not acknowledge or thank the voters who helped propel him to the White House eight years ago and stood by him throughout his scandalous presidency and insurrection. Instead, he said, “Christians are not tremendous voters,” and then rambled for nearly three minutes on themes of religious persecution by “not nice” and “stupid” people, guns and COVID restrictions, without completing coherent sentences or thoughts.

In the closing days of past campaigns, the Republican Party and its Christian right allies made strong appeals to these voters to get out to the polls in huge numbers to save “Christian” America and “biblical” values. On Wednesday, though, Trump’s perfunctory appearance at Christ Chapel Church in the battleground state punted on an opportunity to make such a plea inside a church. The abbreviated, uncomfortable charade showed how Trump, in his third presidential run, has dispensed with the GOP’s farcical claim to being the party of religious Americans, relying instead on his status as a messiah figure to mobilize his loyal base of white evangelical voters.

That lack of concern may be due to his evident decline and increasing indiscipline, or the hubris arising from being persistently told he is God’s anointed candidate. It may also stem from his embrace of a new evangelical leader, far-right campus troll and election denier Charlie Kirk. To the chagrin of many Republicans, Kirk’s organization, Turning Point Action, is performing GOTV functions for the Trump campaign, part of a new, untested Trump strategy for mobilizing irregular voters that is worrying veteran Republican strategists. Turning Point hosted a campaign event in Duluth, Georgia, directly after the one in Zebulon on Wednesday, but it was not billed as an event connected to Believers and Ballots, supposedly the Trump campaign’s own religious outreach. At the Turning Point event, according to The Associated Press, Kirk claimed Democrats “stand for everything God hates” and called the election “a spiritual battle.”

But Trump seems to have little energy for any battle, spiritual or otherwise, and has drifted away from Christian right leaders

Call my sources tabloid if you want to as your way of dismissal. And it's not just the headlines, but the content.

Did Carlson say what he said or not? Are the quotes lies?

Why didn't Fox make a deal out of it?

You put a lot of effort into trying to sell us quite a bit and you loose sales credibility with statements like above.

Probably not. I don't argue with Doc or Jtex or Steve, the other Steve, Mike , you, the Jeff's, etc,.... We can exchange ideas, disagree and that's that.

Naki is an easy example, why argue? He's a goon, everyone here thinks so but so what? Arguing or insulting doesn't matter. It doesn't matter what Naki thinks, nothing is being won here. We'll all wander in and out as long as we please and Saeed allows.

Where is the box on the ballot that says neither is acceptable?

That’s why I refuse to vote for either candidate. Dog shit or cat shit, what’s the difference? There’s no clean end to this turd..

Scott,
I am in no credibility contest. My credibility is earned each and everyday and is in no jeopardy of waning.

On top of that I believe history lends all the credibility needed to my statement in question.

I sure do wish I could buy Lane for what he's worth and sell him for what he thinks he's worth, I'd be an instant oligarch.

That’s a laughable proposition from a man who couldn’t begin to appraise either value. Wink

Jeff,
Have you ever heard the phrase: “talk is cheap but it takes money to buy whiskey?”

I’d be willing to bet that my word has a helluva lot more buying power than yours. Wink
