Walmart is closing the remaining stores in Portland, OR due to rampant theft. Says 600 jobs lost as a result. Insane. ~Ann

Pretty soon they'll rename the city as Poorland. Give me a home where the buffalo roam and I'll show you a house full of buffalo shit.

SOOOO difficult to find! “walmart closing portland stores” on google: https://nypost.com/2023/03/06/...-shoplifting-crisis/ https://www.kptv.com/2023/03/0...pant-property-crime/ https://fortune.com/2023/03/06...closing-permanently/

This is a direct quote from the article in your first link: "The company did not say whether retail theft was a factor in shuttering the Walmart locations in the North and Southeastern sections of the Rose City." Nope, sorry. I am not going to waste my time opening your other links, because it is apparent to me you didn't bother to read any of them before you opined on how easy it was to find a source that corroborated the claim that the Walmarts in Portland Oregon were being closed "... due to rampant theft" Post Script. So, to make sure I wasn't missing anything I did check your second link and it stated "poor overall performance" as the reason given by Walmart to the Mayor of Portland. Your third link is behind a paywall, SOOOOO.... .

It's not really rocket science to make the connection between theft and store financial performance at WalMart. I've been seeing more police cars at one of the stores here lately. https://www.wsaz.com/2022/12/0...-due-theft-ceo-says/ https://marketrealist.com/news...losing-due-to-theft/ Give me a home where the buffalo roam and I'll show you a house full of buffalo shit.

...and it's not really honest, to state the Walmarts in Portland Oregon are closing due to rampant theft, if that isn't a fact. I'm not saying it isn't a fact. I'm simply asking for corroboration. and nope, sorry, still can't find it, even at the NYPost... .

One of our local Walmarts keeps cosmetics and some other stuff in an area with a turnstile by the cash register. One of our Home Depots keeps battery-operated tools in locked cages, among other things. Some people get pissed about not being trusted. The "R" word is invoked now and then... Huvius, Has it occurred to you yet that Walmart is being politically ambiguous for a reason? Do you honestly think that Walmart would declare it's because of the political environment in Portland? FAT CHANCE, and what are the odds that they're forthright and say that it was also due in part to Brandon Biden's roaring economy? My guess, slim : none Frankly, I believe that once Hillary Clintoon left the board at Walmart they decided that going forward they would make an effort not to show their cards. Not that it fooled me, but remember they don't have to fool "me", they just have to fool half the people, half the time... Smart too, not alienating half of their consumers. All that said, Ann's bullshit dosen't strengthen her position, it makes her a bullshitter, like the spokesperson for Walmart. .

TomP, Those are sure signs of organized retail theft operating in those particular outlets. Happens eveywhere, in red cities too. That's why i don't feel DisRespected when they check my receipt and cart on the way out the door... Sign of the times I suppose. .

I'm reminded of James Carville's quip from 1992. It's, "the economy, stupid" Let's be honest. Crime IS a factor. BUT, there is definitely more to this than just theft... https://www.businessinsider.co...ng-in-2023-list?op=1 https://www.usatoday.com/story...st-2023/11419149002/ https://original.newsbreak.com...e-locations-in-texas

Most of those are mall based stores which do not compare at all to Walmart. Malls have been in decline for a very long time and partly because of crime, partly because of internet sales. Sure, there is more to that too. 'Poor performance' - well my guess is people are going to safer suburbs to shop which is why these Walmart stores are closing and citing poor performance. I bet that is the biggest reason, CRIME. Think about it. ~Ann
