I have been a voracious consumer of the written word since my sixth grade teacher cut me loose on his well-stocked personal library. I made it a mission to read as many of his books as possible before leaving for middle school. Nowadays I probably average a little over one book per week. I keep a paperback in the car door pocket to read between kid activities or during those that require only my presence and not my attention. I replace that one about once a month. I also read in the evenings before sleep on my Kindle and churn through 3-5 per month (I'm grinding my way through a Steinbeck right now...). As with many others here, I like a variety - horror, fantasy, non-fiction, history, etc. Noted authors are Tom Clancy, Michael Connely, Ayn Rand, Greg Iles, Terry Brooks, Blake Crouch, Robert Jordan, and son on. Two of my favorites are "Atlas Shrugged" and "Battlefield Earth." I also quite liked "Pillar of Iron" about Marcus Tulius Cicero. But I'll read pretty much anything I can get my hands on. Add to that casual readings of a few hunting rags and professional journals.

Do you ever find yourself reading labels on boxes or containers when a book is not handy?

Not to distract from the OP, but I'm curious about ages. I'm 40 and will still read the newspaper at night even though all the news comes from which I type from.

Kindle and the like; I prefer to turn pages.

Yep. If it's made up of words, I'll read it. I even read all the stuff in Spanish (which I can understand a bit of) and French (which I can't).

I don't read any newspapers - after 08 kind of find them useless. I do get all the major newspapers as Facebook feeds but I won't pay to read one.

I don't want any tv news either.

I do get the financial wires on Bloomberg.

I like reading information online - financial reports (10k/10q etc) news articles Wikipedia articles but I like my books in paper.

62 + regardless of what Gato thinks about it;I admit taking a WAG (wild ass guess)as to how many I have read; I generally keep at least 3 books going at any time,+ have all my life.I really see no purpose in wasting time to do the math when the whole end result is to make a disparaging remark,cloaked or not.
