I recently got back from a black bear hunt over bait. I shot one but never recovered it. I meet regularly with a group of horse people, where we talk horses and work with the horses. One of the members asked me about my hunt, so I relayed what had happened. A lady then asked me about eating black bear meat. I replied about how I usually butcher and cook bear meat. One lady looked a little miffed, and asked me what about the bear? I just smiled and said sometimes, You eat the bear, and sometimes the bear eats you. I couple days later I received an e-mail from the lady telling me she thought it inappropriate to talk about hunting and meat eating at the horse gathering. I was surprised but basically told her, that I was asked by others about the hunt and how to eat the meat, and I just replied. I also told her that I thought most of the people there probable ate meat (since we sometimes served hamburgers or pulled pork sandwiches at the gatherings). I thought that was the end of it, but it turned out she contacted the people who own the stables (and the horses) and complained to them as well! I spoke with both the owners and they affirmed that there was nothing wrong about talking about hunting or cooking meat. To me, this is just another dirty tactic anti-hunters and vegans use to try and turn something as traditional and time honored as hunting and meat eating into something shameful. To the owners credit, the lady talked with them and told them she didn't feel comfortable hanging around people who hunt and eat meat, and wondered if she could set up a separate group consisting of vegans and anti-hunters. The owners told her NO WAY, and that she needed to learn to accept people who thought and acted differently than her. BH63 Hunting buff is better than sex!

Well stated. That being said, I hope the "vegan" doesn't have an activist lawyer.... .

....or how to keep her mouth shut and her feelings to herself. xxxxxxxxxx When considering US based operations of guides/outfitters, check and see if they are NRA members. If not, why support someone who doesn't support us? Consider spending your money elsewhere. NEVER, EVER book a hunt with BLAIR WORLDWIDE HUNTING or JEFF BLAIR. I have come to understand that in hunting, the goal is not the goal but the process.

I am sure that there are stables and owners that she could find that would kiss her ass about her snowflake feelings. Sounds like she is not long for your group in any event.

I've been thinking of telling people I've become a vegetarian for health reasons, but I hunt because I like to shoot shit. And the retort to when they ask: "So you don't eat meat?" "No. Just pussy...." There are two types of people in the world: those that get things done and those who make excuses. There are no others.

Gato, you know that the leftists NEVER do that.I've always been of the opinion that if you disapprove of hunting then don't hunt, own guns, etc.ad nauseum;I don't need to spell it out.But their attitude is that of a spoiled 3 year old. It is only my opinion but it's very true. (that comment used to enrage my ex wife.) Never mistake motion for action.

I appreciate all the responses. Most of what was posted actually did go through my head (especially Grizz's no nonsense response LOL) Since the owners took my side, I just did the noble thing and kept my chuckles to myself. BH63 PS I liked the "I'm a vegan because of health reasons, but I hunt just because I like to kill stuff." I might use that in the future. BH63 Hunting buff is better than sex!

About 45 years ago I was invited by this old guy to go deer hunting on a lease that he had in an old stone quarry with a very tall tower to perch in.We were in position before dawn. Just at daybreak the "next door"neighbors decided to take a horse back ride right where we were hunting. Old Pete blew a gasket;he threw down on them + told them that they had fxxed up his hunting for the last time, you no good liberal XXXXXXXXXX's.If you move I will shoot you both + your horses. He told me to get their horses while he held them in his sights. I finally calmly got Pete to calm down + just let them go.Scared the sxxt out of me because there was no doubt in my mind that he would kill them both.He was quite a bit crazy + guess I was a bit as well to have even gone hunting with him.But I was younger then. I've never been involved in, or heard a conversation that might be classified as "hunt shaming". Times change. Hunting is not near as popular as it once was. For the most part, we no longer drive around with deer hanging off our vehicles, or hanging from our basketball goals in our back yards. Hunting is fading into the shadows as we try to pave every inch of this country. I'll gladly talk hunting with anyone that's interested. If they aren't interested, that's fine. If their hobby is knitting, I won't talk about that either. I'm not interested. I don't like anyone shoving anything in my face, and quite a few people that classify themselves as hunters seem to take that approach. It is like they want to start an argument. Saying you like to kill stuff doesn't separate you from any mass murderer or nut-job; and certainly doesn't give any indication you are a hunter. If people ask, I tell them that I love to hunt. If they have any further questions, I'll answer them. If not. Fine. No reason to puff-up and start strutting around like a banty rooster.

I have people that deliver things to our house, that occasionally comment on our trophies that they can observe throughout the home. When they come in the door, I never say a word about the trophies, and never start a conversation about them, unless they bring it up. Sometimes they deliver and move on without a word being said by anyone; sometimes it leads to a discussion, which I keep as positive and as short as possible.

When Hillary was up against Obama in the 1st election I was having supper at a restaurant with a couple of friends that are die hard democrats (yeah,I have friends there). When I made the comment that just about anyone was better than Hillary, they asked me why. I have to admit that it was hard to keep my temper in check, but I did + simply made the statement that I could not vote for anyone whose prime adjenda was to eradicate my lifestyle. When we first moved to Anchorage from Dillingham we made friends with our neighbors one of which is from the Hamptons in New York. We didn't know that at the time but we asked her to give us a hand hanging our Brown Bear rug on the wall (Our only taxidermy at the time). She and her husband, the son of an Alaskan homesteader, helped. About a week later, over some drinks, she chuckled about the incident. She said her New York friends were a bit shocked when she told them but her real concern was her employer, and I kid you not, the Sierra Club, might find out. I have kept them in Moose and Caribou meat for the last 18 years. Neither hunts, but they never turn down the meat. ______________________ DRSS ______________________ Hunt Reports 2015 His & Her Leopards with Derek Littleton of Luwire Safaris - http://forums.accuratereloadin...6321043/m/2971090112 2015 Trophy Bull Elephant with CMS http://forums.accuratereloadin...6321043/m/1651069012 DIY Brooks Range Sheep Hunt 2013 - http://forums.accuratereloadin...901038191#9901038191 Zambia June/July 2012 with Andrew Baldry - Royal Kafue http://forums.accuratereloadin...6321043/m/7971064771 Zambia Sept 2010- Muchinga Safaris http://forums.accuratereloadin...6321043/m/4211096141 Namibia Sept 2010 - ARUB Safaris http://forums.accuratereloadin...6321043/m/6781076141

I have all my taxidermy that is in two locked rooms - my gun room and my ammo room/home office. My other taxidermy - table mounted cape buff horns are mobile. When my vegetarian and vegan friends come over I go move it into my locked room. I prefer not to rub my hunting into people who are anti hunting but close long time friends and family. I have European skull mounted taxidermy near my pool and I have mixed it all with artificial plastic taxidermy like mounts from restoration hardware. Now I classify all of it as plastic and decorative causing moving some of it it just is too much work I get indirect pressure from my vegetarian and vegan and animal right activist friends on hunting post on social media. I still post the occasional hunting picture with dead animals. They just say the fishing stuff is much nicer. When I took my mom to Africa as a observer she stated no pictures of dead animals on Facebook -I complied. Mike

Yes. I'm disgusted by people that think their opinions matter to anyone. I fucking despise these intolerant, angry scumbags trying to make it their way only or everyone is gonna hear about it. I'm not sure if there's a lot of this type or we just hear about every last one of them since the media seems to thrive on (and side with} this horseshit. Also.....+1 what kensco said.

Our daughter in-law is a vegetarian & very tender hearted towards all animals, but she is very respectful of me and my hunting and has said that she knows that I will take my grandson hunting when he gets older. She simply ask that we not discuss it. And since she is sweet to my wife & I & we love her very much, I just keep my mouth shut. Can't say that I would do that for anyone else. I treat the topic of hunting (and Columbus Day) just like any other topic. If it comes up, or if the conversation seems to merit talking about hunting (or Columbus Day) I give my perspective. That is what "free speech" is all about. Being extremely aggressive about liberal opinions, and trying to bully others into not talking about alternative opinions, is a tactic the liberals have been using "successfully" for years. Only by standing up to them (remember the concept "For great evil to triumph, good men only have to do nothing.") and being just as aggressive about your lifestyle choices as they are, can we successfully preserve our way of life. Good for the owner for standing up to this whiner. Canadians (and others) eat horse meat. What if you had mentioned that some actually consider horse meat fine dining? That would certainly qualify as inappropriate. OR - At a vegan or vegetarian gathering? Hunting for meat talk should be avoided. At a get together about horses? No direct correlation here that I can see. Of course to have a battle of wits with a whiner by mentioning anything sensible might be fruitless.

Kinda on + off the subject.About 35 years ago I was at the Safeway grocery store meat market in line to get what I wanted from the butcher. This young woman in front of me told the butcher what she wanted. He said he did not have that cut available but would go in back + take it out of a side. She say's "A side of what?"He says, well beef ma'am.She starts to scream blue blazes + throwing a real hissy fit, she's going to to go to the SPCA,ad nauseum. The butcher + I looked each other in the eye. He was an employee,he could'nt laugh,he just turned around + walked in the back. I however was not constrained + laughed my ass off.Where do these people come from? Never mistake motion for action.

They don't think meat comes from an animal.... ....it comes from the store, right? I used to work with a guy (firefighters) that wouldn't eat with us if we brought wild game. He would check the trash to see if there was a grocery store package in there... _______________ DSC NRA Benefactor
