Well the other shoe dropped today as I received notice from the court that Uber Glove Company (Trophy Hides) has filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy (see previous post in this forum). Pisses me off as they were happy to provide information on shipping address and payment procedures over the phone - apparently as they were contemplating the action.

I know nothing about bankruptcy procedings - and would dearly love to get my @#$%^&* cape buffalo hide back - even if I have to eat the payment I sent them. Any advice welcomed.

Be Warned - not like you're going to see anything telling you not to deal with these folks anywhere else.

Not legal advice, but Chapter 7 ain't good -- that's liquidation -- unlike Chapter 16 which is reorganization. I'm not a bankruptcy lawyer, just sayin' it don't look good. Get counsel if it's worth it, but just don't count on anything. Best of luck.

Thanks for posting this! They did a great job for me on a couple of NM oryx, but I am getting a couple of hides shipped from Zim soon and had just emailed them about price.

Sorry! I hope you haven't lost everything.

Not a lawyer but as far as your payment goes you will never see that again. The government and secured creditors are first in line for whatever money might be had. But still file a claim you might get a few pennies. As far as your cape goes I think you should be able to get that back as it is yours and they should not be able to sell it off during the bankruptcy. But that is my opinion and common sense and common sense has nothing to do with the law.

Good Hunting,

I won one of those before. I had paid my deposit via AMEX, they refunded my entire deposit!

Got to testify. This fiasco turned out ok. A couple of months ago out of the blue, I came home and found a message on the answering machine about my order from Uber Glove from "Lanny". I called, and got connected to the new owner of the company. Seems when the bank became the proud owner of Uber Glove Company, they contacted the guy who originally owned the company and had sold it to the folks who went bankrupt.

Long story shorter - the new owner went through the records and contacted folks who had sent hides and placed orders and asked if they were still interested in having stuff made from their hides. I said yes, and just before Christmas a package arrived containing a nice purse for my wife made from the leather from a cape buffalo WE got in Zimbabwe.

She loves the purse, I got a reduced price, and the rest of the tanned leather was returned.

As mad as I was for the initial screwing, I gotta say Lanny Uber made it right - and I wouldn't hesitate to deal with them again.

There are a few good people left, I'd say Mr Uber is one of them. tu2

"Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading" - Thomas Jefferson

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

"If you're being chased by a Lion, you don't have to be faster than the Lion, you just have to be faster than the person next to you."
