Does anyone have any info on Ron Newman... as in where he is and how to get ahold of him? I'm at my wits end... Every phone number (5)I've had for him is no longer in service, his email is toast, he never returned calls from a couple months ago and shortly after disconnected his phone.

Last I knew he was in Colorado Springs. At this point IMO he has stolen a 17.5" bushbuck from me along with backskins, two capes, and $1700 in cash.

Some people just aren't worth the air they breath.

Thanks

He has my Cape Buffalo and Hartebeast from the 2006 hunt. He dropped out of sight in April or so of 2007.

Sure hate to lose the only Buf I may ever get a chance to shoot.

These posts make me sick. Terrible to have this happen.

You may want to post a report about this on Taxidermy.net under the taxidermy industry forum. The taxidermy world can be a small world at times and you may get some leads. I hope you both get your trophies back.

I'd follow Grafton's advice. He's on target with your best hope. Next, contact the CO G&F. He should have been licensed with them, and if so, he may have filed a change of address. Slim chance but worth a try. On the Taxidermy net, post all the info you can give: name, address, business name ect. Those guys and gals are sharp on tracking. Some of them would be an asset to tracking game Smiler
Good luck,
David

As many of you know, he posted on AR as "Widowmaker 416". I have heard the same as you that he alledgedly skipped out of New Jersey and ended up in Colorado just ahead of creditors and unhappy clients.

I also know that he alledgedly owes a large sum to a very reputable Safari Operator in Zim for past hunt(s). He portrayed himself as a taxidermist/booking agent and the outfitter gave him some latitude ie. time in paying them. He has skipped out on paying them, yet he has showed up at SCI and acted as if nothing is wrong. Of course, he avoids this outfitter and their PH's like the plague. I don't think he has been to SCI lately.

I agree that the best way to track him down might be through the CO Fish & Game or the Taxidermy Associations, etc. Another option is to do a search here on AR African Hunting using "Widowmaker 416" as the criteria and perhaps you will be able to uncover a contact or two in the New Jersey/Philly area who might be of help. Past hunting partner, client, etc.

Good luck. Sounds like he knows how to hide.

If he's stolen your property, why can't you just go to the cops and report the theft...... then they'll track him down for you...... or am I being naive?

I had a taxidermist about a mile from me do this a few years ago. He was like 2 years behind and had taken lots of money from people. He skipped town and no one has heard of him since. My buddy had a 500 pound bear there, gone! The bad thing is, people think I'm him cuz there's not too many of us around here. His work was less than bad. I feel terrible for you, I hope you get your stuff. If you find him, kick him in the teeth for all honest taxidermists around the world.

Ivan and Mike,

I have been working, on and off, for months in trying to locate him for another AR member who has lost several skins when he disappeared. I have a large number of taxidermist friends in Colorado, but none have heard of him. Colorado taxidermists have a winter meeting coming up and I have asked permission to post a request for help in finding Ron, in the wanted section of their newsletter. They have 90+ members and many are in surrounding states, so I am hoping someone has heard of him or knows his whereabouts. I have also checked our National Taxidermy Registry and he is not a member. Unfortunately, if he is working for a licenced taxidermist he doesn't need to be licenced in the state he is in, so he would never show up on the Game and Fish licence list. Guys like this have been known to go to work for 'big' name studios and just disappear off the radar as they become just another specialised employee collecting a paycheck!

If and when I find something out I will post it here in this section.

Kind regards,
Mary
