"Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading" - Thomas Jefferson

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

"If you're being chased by a Lion, you don't have to be faster than the Lion, you just have to be faster than the person next to you."

Were ya able to get the stink out, Jerry?? They are some of the most "olfactory" blessed critters out there!! Great lookin' mount!

L.David, shhh.. I dont need any more folks to compete with for my tag!! Ive tried for YEARS and still no luck. I want that tag more than anything in the US..

Scottyboy,
I think it is impossible to get ALL the smell out, it will fade with time though. Even the best tanneries can't get it out. This one is actually pretty good, you can't smell it until your nose is a couple of inches away. If they aren't treated with something you can smell them when you walk in the door.

Oh, I know all too well Jerry!! Ive mounted a couple of them and have skinnned a couple up on "the rock" as well..

Those bad boys smell so strong when they are alive that you can see them from 200yrds away if you're downwind..

I remember one lifesize mount we did for a guy.. The mount looked great but like you said, even after coming back from the tannery, the hide just smelled STRONG!! We did the l/s mount, and took it to the guy's house and house. It pretty much reeked up the entire household in no time. His wife struck down with an ultimatum on the goat.. Long story short, he "gave" the mount to a local sporting store to display in the store.. Store calls him back in a week or so and tells him to "come pick up your rotten ass goat from the store"!! Mr. Ibex now resides in a storage unit while he slowly "defunks".. And we tried everything we could to get the smell out.. apple vineger, repeated shampooings, etc.. And I always thought a rutting waterbuck was bad!!!

Again Jerry, great mount!!

You can spray those mounts with Natural Magic Odor Blaster Super Deodorizer I use the non-scented and it WILL permanently eliminate all odors. I use it in my taxidermy studio on goat and ibex mounts and it really works. www.naturalmagic.com I buy it at my local Ace hardware store.

Thanks for the tip James, I used a deodorizer from Van Dykes on this Ibex and it worked pretty well.
