I'm headed back over to RSA in '18 and plan to have an Nyala shoulder mount done by one of our forum taxidermists in the US. Other animals will be Euro mounts and tanned hides. Should I have the Nyala cape tanned or dipped? How about the other animals?

Perhaps you should ask your taxidermist. I am sure he will have an opinion. Most US taxidermists have strong opinions on the quality of African tanning and taxidermy in general. Without naming specific names, I have yet to see anything come out of Africa that is comparable to the quality of the better taxidermists in the US and in some cases, Canada.

Agree I would talk to your taxidermist he's the one who will have to do the mounting.

Not all tans and tannery's are equal. Your taxidermist may prefer a wet tanned cape (I do for most mounts) so that would only apply if tanned in the US.

"Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading" - Thomas Jefferson

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

"If you're being chased by a Lion, you don't have to be faster than the Lion, you just have to be faster than the person next to you."
