Here is the situation, my husband was granted a High Altai Argali permit by the Mongolian Government for 2011. The downside is our U.S.F.W.S. has really limited the amount of import permits they will issue.

Even if he is not given an import permit he is going anyway and will leave the trophy as a gift to the Mongolia Government to use as they see fit.

My question is,has anyone made a field cast of a trophy sheep? His idea is to make a cast of the cleaned skull and horns and have a replica made. Does anyone have any experience doing this or know what would be necessary for this to be accomplished?

Any help would be appreciated.

Kathi, There are several studio's around the country that offer replica sheep horns so someones producing them. If no one steps in and has a solution, get in touch with me. One of my friends makes replica deer antlers...I speaking of the giant variety, and sells them on Ebay, etc. I've cast a great number of fish but not sheep horns. Someone will most likely give you the details.

David

A field cast of a argali skull whit horns isn't one of easiest thing in the world...
But i think is possible, maybe if your husband make a little of experience before... and in 3 years i think he can...
If he can go to mongolia whit SEVERAL lbs of cast silicon, maybe the version that one can use like clay (that is a great thing if you need a good, fast cast of a solid items) and some other material for the mother mold etc, the work and maybe not the best cast in the world but a decent replica can be possible.
Anyway I'm not a prof. and have just a little experience whit casting horns...
