I have just picked up my giraffe hide from the tanner that received my shipment from Namibia, and he doesn't want to attempt to tan the hide for a rug. Reason stated is that it’s larger and thicker than he's accustomed to being a small tan shop in Montana. Has done other African animals for me, Cape Buffalo, Water buck and Sable and the trophies are beautiful. He’s just not comfortable with this Old Bull Giraffe.
What I'm looking for is a quality tanner somewhere between Bozeman Montana and San Diego CA that is capable of tanning this giraffe hide for a rug, without felt backing, for a reasonable price.
Any recommendations w/ phone number would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers
Chris

New Method Fur Dressing was in San Francisco if I remember. I used them numerous times in the 70s-80s. Quality tanning but I do not know if they are still around. If your forced to ship outside your area, Yost in WI or Wildlife Gallery in MI are your best choices.

"Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading" - Thomas Jefferson

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

"If you're being chased by a Lion, you don't have to be faster than the Lion, you just have to be faster than the person next to you."

Junior,
We have a young man that has just started up a tannery here in Pagosa Springs, CO and he is doing a wonderful job. He has gotten all of the taxidermists work here because of the quality of his work. He has done lots of deer, bear, antelope, elk, Bison and now has my impala and Cape Buffalo hide from this years hunt. If you are interested, pm me and I will get you his contact information.

Do not use someone that has not done a lot of them.you want to use a tannery that know what they are doing and have done a lot of them or you will not be happy. I use wildlife gallery tannery in Mich. for my giraffes and they do a great job but I also use wildlife fur dressers in ceres ca and they do a great job also but all of these you need a taxidermist license to use them. You should have some slipping on some areas but are easy to repair...... patriot
