Great JOB! I wish the eye manufacturers would make eyes that fit duikers that were a little more brown than black. Maybe they do, I've just never seen them. I remember being surprised at how strikingly light brown the eyes were on my duiker and was a little disappointed when the mount came back with a much darker version like in your work. I also really like your attention to lip detail. I've seen far too many "lipless" mounts and the animals always look to me like they've eaten something to sour. The nose also looks very good with that moist and not overly textured appearance. One other thing I've noticed about your duiker (I'm assuming it's a Southern Bush Duiker so correct me if I'm mistaken). Is that he has an awful lot of dark hairs peppered into his cape. This got me thinking. These dark hairs are almost completely absent on mine. Is this a common variation among duikers or are the dark hairs a seasonal thing in their coats. Kind of like our whitetails are red in the summer and more gray in the winter. Here's mine so you can comment on the coat differences. He was taken in August '06

Thanks for the comments everyone. The coats do vary. There are dark colored examples of most species and very light colored ones too. This one had long, dark, almost red colored hair. Most I see look like yours. I would imagine the long hair would be due to either seasonal or perhaps geographical climate) differences. East Cape vs. West Cape etc..I honestly do not know the answer to your question regarding the dark colored hairs mixed in. Interesting observation on the eye color. All the reference photos I have show very dark eyes. Perhaps the sun shining on the eyes can make them appear more brown. The lip is a matter of personal choice. I usually like to have a little bottom lip showing. They do not always show on live animals, Kudu often show no bottom lip when the mouth is closed. Another characteristic I have noticed is the "cow lick" hair pattern at the top of the brisket. Your mount shows this too. Some lay to the right and some lay to the left. Anyway, duikers are really intersting animals and there are so many different types. If you had the money and the time it would be great to try and get as many different species as possible.

These two photos show the eyes better. Don't know for sure if it's sun or something that fades after they expire. (My PH was having a ball with my camera.)
